Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day

It was unseasonably warm in Fandom today, which was good news for anyone who didn't want to have to worry about bundling up, and bad news for anyone hoping for a snowy picnic. Traditions were traditions though, so there was still a bonfire going and plenty of supplies for s'mores and hot chocolate among the variety of foods and drinks that had been prepared for the new folks.

Once everything was set up and un-tasteful amounts of glitter had been brushed off of everything, it was time to be welcoming!

Alara tried not to stare but there weren’t too many residents of Fandom with noticeably different physical appearances, aside from maybe Sidon so it wasn’t difficult for her to spot Kurt and after a bit decided to make her way over.

“Hi I’m Alara,” she said with a smile as she approached Kurt, “are you new to Fandom this semester?” Alara knew that sometimes she wasn’t the most social so she figured it wouldn’t hurt to check.

Kurt nodded as he gave her a shy smile. "Just got in today. Nice to meet you, Alara" he said, his accent doing surprisingly well with the name. "I'm Kurt."

"It's nice to meet you Kurt," she told him, "what do you think of Fandom so far? I know it can be quite overwhelming at first,"

"It's been good so far... surprisingly calm compared to my last school. I mean at least no one has tried to run me out of town yet and there's been no angry mob. So, yeah... I will take it."

He gave Alara a small shy smile.

"How long have you been going to school here?"

Alara smiled softly, "it can sometimes be a bit much being outside Fandom with ... well differences," she said, hers weren't as obvious but she had noticed the stares her forehead and ears got whenever she had travelled elsewhere, "but people are nice and understanding here," she assured him.

She paused, "I've been here for about a year and a half now," she said as she thought about it, "this was my first time visiting a planet outside my home world," she told him.

"That's good to hear," he said trying not to sound too relieved at that. "It... it was really rough back home at the school I was at before. That's... that's why the Professor sent me here to see if things went any better this time around."

“Oh I’m sorry to hear that,” she told him, “Fandom has been quite unlike anything I’ve ever experienced before,” she paused, she figured he had been given the necessary explanations about how weird this place could get, “one weekend I turned into an alternate version of myself who was part of some kind of resistance movement back home …that had been different,” she revealed.

"So more alternate timelines and universes" Kurt said with a nod. "I've meet two people already handwavely today who know me or another version of me just today. It's really weird, but at the same time I think I could get used to that fairly easily."

But still there was one question worth asking.

"These are all temporary though right? I mean, obviously you are you again... but most of it's all temporary, all the..." he wrinkled his brow a minute trying to remember the word someone else had used earlier. "The.. shenanigans?"

"Most of the time it's only a day or a weekend," Alara nodded, "we get these events a few times a year where they can go longer ... over the summer people kept disappearing in these holes and ended up being several hundred feet underground Fandom ... some ended up being trapped there for weeks, I think that's been the longest amount of time any of the weirdness has lasted though so that one is one of the rare cases," she told him, hoping that she hadn't just gone and jinked everything.
