Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day

It was unseasonably warm in Fandom today, which was good news for anyone who didn't want to have to worry about bundling up, and bad news for anyone hoping for a snowy picnic. Traditions were traditions though, so there was still a bonfire going and plenty of supplies for s'mores and hot chocolate among the variety of foods and drinks that had been prepared for the new folks.

Once everything was set up and un-tasteful amounts of glitter had been brushed off of everything, it was time to be welcoming!

"Are they undead where you're from?" she asked, amused. "But yes, they're sentient."

"We do also have undead. The band at Caritas is made up of zombies, the bar that doesn't serve 'minors,'" yes, you could probably hear the air quotes there, "--is owned by a vampire, and I think the librarian is some sort of warlock? He's undergone at least one dark resurrection magic on him that I can sense. But I think that just makes him stupid, non undead."

"Well no they're ordinary squirrels where I'm from ... my world is quite boring," it wasn't he just didn't know it and then his expression lit up when he heard the rest of her sentence.

“There’s a vampire here who owns a bar!” he let out a squeak and was already majorly fanboying, it was possible if Guillermo’s eyes were any wider they’d fall out of their sockets, “an actual real vampire? I’ve always wanted to meet one!”

That was clearly the most important thing to focus on and not anything about zombies or warlocks or that there was a bar that did cater to minors.

"His name is Eric, he is an actual Viking from what I've heard, and for an immortal he is awfully hung-up on things like drinking laws," Illyana complained, rolling her eyes. "Even if you are of legal drinking age at home."

"Apparently being a business owner can make you boring, even if you are a vampire. Kitty's bar, Caritias, is much more fun."

“Eric the vampire,” yes Guillermo was still in awe and figuring out a way that he could actually meet him and possibly ask him a million questions - “oh that is so cool, I love vampires - ever since I saw meta for Interview with a Vampire when I was kid, I didn’t think I’d be going to a school where there’s a local vampire,”

Then he seemed to register the rest of what Illyana had said, “they’ll really serve you anything? At Kitty’s bar?” Guillermo was intrigued, he admittedly didn’t have much experience with drinking and socialising since he didn’t actually get invited to those kind of events.

"Because Katya -- Kitty -- is a good an sensible person, even if she's too old and has a kid," Illyana answered. "...sorry. I know a version of her who's MY age at home, and possibly my best friend there. So an adult-version here is weird, even after two years."

"But yeah. If you can walk and talk, you can order a drink. The bar also has a really cool no-violence spell on it, so anyone who gets too drunk and tosses a punch gets teleported into the duck pond. It's an amazingly complex piece of magic, I'd really love to take it apart and study it someday."
