Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

The good weather continued throughout the day, making it very comfortable to be out on the lawn. Who would want to miss such a nice picnic?

[OCD is up! This is the picnic post for general mingling. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Liam wasn't teaching this summer, but the picnics were always good for getting a bead on the new arrivals.

Assuming they, you know, arrived. Unlike last time.

Which, speaking of... the number of texts he was sending Verity 'just to check in' were uh, a little higher than usual? Yeah, yeah, lightning never striking twice and all that but look, his wife ended up kidnapped kind of a lot, hopefully she'd forgive him for being a tad paranoid.

Wayne had himself some food. He had himself a seat. And then he was going to have himself a good squint at the crowd in an activity most people would call 'people watching' or at least scoping out new faces.

Assumin' there'd even be any this session...

It hadn't even been a week since Tisarwat moved out of the dorms and in with Breq, but already she missed that feeling of having so many people around. So she was definitely not missing the picnic, even if it was guaranteed that people would be eating with their bare hands.

S'mores were almost worse than pizza, you guys!

But she had her tea, so it was fine, it just meant she'd be clinging to it while her lilac eyes scanned the crowd for new people that might come from places that already appreciated the propriety of a fine pair of gloves.

And after Astrid had met her little sibling and got to know her and hopefully gave her a good run-down on this place without sounding like the absolute lunatic she thought everyone else was on her first day at Fandom, she spent the rest of the picnic like she tended to spend most of these events: by finding a nice tree just a little bit away from the crowd and settling underneath it with her sketchbook, lifting her head just enough to scan the crowd and pick out some interesting subjects (old favorites, of course, but also, hopefully, plenty of new ones, too), before disappearing behind a curtain of blonde hair to get to work.

And avoiding literally anything even remotely box-shaped if she could help it.

Thankfully, by now, Freya knew that disappointment was evident, but she still couldn't help herself from scanning the crowd with a bit of hope that she might see the familiar face of her beloved Sir Fratley somewhere in the crowd. Hers was an ember of hope that would not so easily fade! She also found herself trying to seek out any sign of someone clearly not human besides Alara and herself, realizing as she glanced around just how odd it felt to be somewhere that seemed to be habitated by almost entirely humans. In her travels, even the most backwater villages weren't nearly so homogeneous, and she found it very strange.

But she'd also found the food tables. And she kind of hated herself for it, but she'd also found the cheese.

Finding new sibling was a success! And it, like, turned out that she was Prompto's sibling from last semester that never properly arrived!

Which meant she'd texted that news to her brother and then grabbed herself a plateful of foods--mostly healthier ones: apple slices, grapes, celery, carrot sticks--and found a place to avidly watch everyone.

Her blindingly pink bedazzled megaphone was beside her, a mute testament that she may be temporarily quiet but that she was not liable to stay quiet!

"Oh my Goddess," Elli said, a bit faintly, when she took in all the people at the picnic.

Alexis had talked about this being a small town but there was nothing small about it to Elli.

She braved the food tables for a plate and a bottle of juice and then she found a spot under a tree, near the sidelines, to settle down in and just... absorb. There were so many people!

Octavia had taken a slight detour before coming to the picnic, but now she was there and it was business as usual: she was piling her plate high, while slipping things that would keep into her bag.

She was feeling pretty pleased with herself, not that you could probably tell unless you knew her well enough to spot the lack of tension in how she carried herself.

So, this was the school, huh? It was still so freakin' weird and everyone acting like it wasn't was just making this place even weirder.

Alara wasn't sure what she had been expecting when she had come to Fandom but it had certainly been a different experience.

She grabbed a plate of food and was standing off to the side so that she wasn't in the way and was trying to hide how awkward she was but she wasn't succeeding very well.

This was making Kathy a little nostalgic for her own picnics back in high school. She remembered the plans she'd made with Kira to finally show up topless for the summer picnics - only to miss them by virtue of being one of the walking dead.

Ronin offered her hand a soft lick and she smiled down at him. "I'm okay, boy," she promised. "Let's make some new memories today, huh?"

This was definitely one of Grog's favorite days, and he was happily going through the food line for seconds, and thirds, and some fourths of things. A tall, shirtless, gray teenager was probably noticeable, but he was friendly, really!

Ulysses had actually managed to find his little sib, this time! And now with that done, he was free to catch up with his old friends, the tables with the food.

He was a growing boy, okay, he required sustenance. A really big plate of everything, which he miraculously managed to carry back to a table without tripping and spilling everything everywhere.

Why yes, he was proud of himself, thank you.

So this was a welcome picnic! Did Alexis need to stay for long?

Until she made a break for it, anyway, Alexis would be the fabulous-looking girl sitting and watching and questioning just how many people here didn't look human now that she saw them all in one spot, but she'd also seen way weirder stuff, so she wasn't judging.

...Anymore. She'd judged a little at the airport.

Mae had mixed feelings about these things. On the one hand, free food! Interesting people to watch! On the other . . . having to be sociable! Sometimes as mandated by the school!

She'd done her mandated socializing, so she was perched on a picnic table off to one side, with a pile of food larger than her (not small) head. For eating, and for throwing at people.

What? Catching food in your mouth was fun! It wasn't her fault people were maybe not paying enough attention (and hadn't actually agreed to play her game).

Oh thank everything, more food. Julius was still really hungry, two sandwiches were nothing to a young dragon. He'd seen his brother Justin plow through fifteen pizzas in ten minutes and still order more. Still, he was trying to keep a low profile, so he was polite and limited himself two only two plates of hamburgers, plus a plate of fries, three more plates of various sides, and a handful of cookies.

As hiss nose had predicted, it was all delicious. He wolfed his first plate of burgers down, but the second took him much longer. By the time he was ready to start on his sides, Julius was astonished to find he was full. Apparently, even his appetite was limited to a human scale now, which meant he'd lost both food and flying to his mother's seal. That realization almost made him weep. He loved eating.

Today was the worst day.

So. No one seemed to be kidnapping anyone. And Duke actually knew he was going to be here today.

So far, this was his best picnic ever.

Even if he had just gotten hit in the face by a pirogi thrown by that weird cat-headed kid.

Rey liked the picnics. She never did much at them, but it was nice to see everyone else together all in one place. She had a plate of food because of course she did, and hung out by the picnic tables, happy to just watch.

Kitty always came to the picnics. Besides just being fun, she liked seeing who was around and how much they might break a brain or two. Not that she was getting much people watching done, since she was sitting on the ground and letting Lexi play, which was ending in a lot of "No no no come back," and "You don't want to eat that grass okay I guess you're eating that grass."

After meeting her little sibling, Sabine got a drink and took a seat under a tree to see how things were going.

He built another massive tower of sandwiches and absconded to a picnic table, where he sprawled mightily.

Lucifer was not a school picnic person. Or a picnic person in general. Which was why he was entirely oblivious that the picnic was happening until he came strolling into the park, paused, sighed, muttered a curse, took a swig from his flask, and began to make a wide circle around the picnic.

Tahani had a plate of fruit because that wouldn't mess up her shirt, thank you very much. She was looking around a little wide-eyed despite pretending to be very okay with everything.
