Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

The good weather continued throughout the day, making it very comfortable to be out on the lawn. Who would want to miss such a nice picnic?

[OCD is up! This is the picnic post for general mingling. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

So. No one seemed to be kidnapping anyone. And Duke actually knew he was going to be here today.

So far, this was his best picnic ever.

Even if he had just gotten hit in the face by a pirogi thrown by that weird cat-headed kid.

"I heard you had an adventure," Rey greeted him.

"I've had a few. Which are you referring to?"

He didn't classify his arrest as an 'adventure'.

"The night in jail."

She did classify it that way, and now she was kind of wondering what else he was getting up to.

"Ah. Yes. That." Duke shook his head. "Apparently the new guy thought the reason Larceny is . . . Larceny is because I'm a bad, bad man."

Rey made a little face at that, because she got how it sounded, but that was also not at all how it was, which was why she'd also figured he would have been let go earlier than he was.

"She wanted so badly to help, too. Even before I think she knew why you were in there."

“Larceny did? Yeah, she offered to bust me out. And apparently tried to pay my bail in pearls.”

"In pearls?" Rey asked. "Does that count as money?"

They'd had a talk about this.

"They definitely have monetary value. Just . . . not really standardized."

"She tried." Credit for that. "How're you doing after all of it?"

Duke shrugged. “I’m fine. For real. Not the first time I’ve been arrested.”

"Yeah, but this time was pretty pointless," she said. "I feel like I'd still be annoyed."

"Oh, I'm definitely annoyed." And he'd lost some sleep over it, too. He'd gotten comfortable with the level of policing around here. "I'm just . . . also kind of used to that, too."

"I'm sorry. You shouldn't have to deal with all that," she said.

Duke shrugged. "Yeah. But I've pretty much always had to. At least here the sheriff doesn't hate me."

"Liam? He's a good guy," Rey said, nodding.

Liam was on of her favorites that she didn't talk to nearly enough.

"He's alright, yeah. Doesn't have nearly the same stick up his ass as most officers of the law."

"I wouldn't have thought he had a stick at all," she admitted.

“He’s a cool. They all have at least a little bit of a stick. Comes with the badge.”

"These are things I miss when I don't know many cops, I guess," Rey said.

Which was probably good. Wanted fugitive and all.
