Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

The good weather continued throughout the day, making it very comfortable to be out on the lawn. Who would want to miss such a nice picnic?

[OCD is up! This is the picnic post for general mingling. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

That was...very much not how dragons did things. They lived for debts; the more people owed them, the more power they had.

Shockingly, Julius really hated the concept of debts and owing. So Karolina's refusal to even entertain the notion of a gift back was as gratifying as it was surprising. "Thank you," he said again, words spilling over themselves. "You really didn't have to. But - guidance counselor, you said?"

"That's right," Karolina confirmed brightly, complete with a nod. "Means I'm here to do my best to help with whatever problems any of you might have."

Julius's smile went a little wry at that. He had a major problem that nobody could help him with, sadly. But he appreciated the sentiment, at least.

And the chocolate.

"You already have," he said, holding up the map. "I, uh, sorta showed up without any luggage, so having this to navigate through the town's stores will help."

Because he was fastidious not to want to wear the same clothing for days on end, thanks.

He was talking to someone whose parents had wanted her to turn out a whole lot less nice than she had, though. So there was that.

"Oh!" Karolina said. "Well, Demon Marcus should be a good stop for those." She did not remember it had been renamed, no. Oh well. "I think a lot of places have sales when new people come through, too. You're not exactly the first to get here without a lot of stuff."

"I guess not," Julius agreed. "My, umm, roommate showed up the same way. Just her clothes and her weapon."

Beat.

"...Weird that it's that common though." Right?

"Kiiiind of," Karolina hedged, her head tilting almost in time with how she drew the first word out. "That's sort of what this place is known for, though? Weird things happening all the time."

Huh. What a weird sense of foreboding there! Like a cloud over the sun in summer.

"...Like what?"

"How much did your sib tell you?"

It was rude to answer a question with a question, but she was just trying to estimate the level of brain-breakage potential she was dealing with, here.

"That this isn't a magic school, although some people have magic, and that people usually make food to share in the common room," Julius said.

So, you know. The important stuff! Free food.

That was the important stuff, yes! Though the rest also gave Karolina a decen baseline.

"All true," she said, nodding. "But, this island's kind of a... multiversal hub? And that means we get a lot of different people from different kinds of worlds."

A pause, a little twisting of her lips as she considered her words.

"But also sometimes odd things just happen here? Like, it might rain candy or we might get, um, invaded by something."

"Huh," Julius said, brows contracting. "Wait. So all the other dimensions and planes and things are set up like a wheel? Or, probably a sphere, since we're talking three-dimensional space."

Well, a multi-dimensional three-dimensional space.

Ha ha, that was some dragon humor for you.

"But all rotating around a central point?"

"... Maybe?"

Yeah, Karolina really didn't know. No one had ever really tried to figure it out quite in those terms around her before.

"All I know is that sometimes you might run into people here who know different versions of you from their worlds. I don't... really know how it all works when it comes to the science of it."

She was also from Marvel and therefore maybe more likely than most to just roll with it.

"Well, we know that travel to other planes is possible with very strong magic," Julius said, looking less likely to have his brain shattered by all of this, at least. "I guess that would make alternate dimensions make sense, too?"

He should have studied more magical theory.
