Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

The tables and chairs had been scattered around the lawn - some near the food, some not, some in the shade, some not - and the food was ready for anyone who wanted to come by and greet the new people.

Enjoy your last picnic where shirtlessness will be enjoyable until next summer, folks!

[OCD is up! This is the picnic post for general mingling. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Octavia had no particular interest in greeting new people.

But she had a great interest in food, so she was piling her plate high - and pocketing things that could be pocketed. If it was free for the taking, she was taking it.

Vette was starting to kind of resign herself to the possibility that she A) Probably hadn't been having a weird fever dream all morning and was actually on some weird backrocket world somewhere surrounded mainly by humans, and B) Had no idea what she was doing, but at least the food looked good.

Not that she knew what any of it was. It was still more food than she'd seen in one place in a long while, and so she was looking thoughtfully over at the food table, wondering how much of that was safe to eat. She could probably get away with picking over what the humans were eating...?

Probably.

Hera grinned as she came over to say hi. "Hi! Nice to see familiar lekku with all the humans here. Don't worry, most of them are okay. Doesn't make it any less weird."

Sidon was thrilled to meet any new fellow students, of course, but he had to admit there was a particular excitement that raced through him when the new face he spotted just happened to belong to someone who was not human. Humans were all lovely and wonderful, of course, and the category of non-human was so vast and varied, but it played such a big part in helping him in those moments where he felt so strange and out of place around here.

"Pardon the interruption," he said, approaching the girl and tilting his head a little, smiling faintly and trying to seem friendly, "but you're one of the new students, aren't you?"

Norman kind of actually liked picnic days. They were basically the only days of the year where he got to stuff his face full of potato chips and still not feel like the most awkward kid on campus.

He was smiling as he made himself comfortable at one of the picnic tables with, yes, a plate full of food including but not limited to chips, and looked around to see if he could pick out the new faces from the old.

And occasionally looking off into the distance to watch a ghost-shark swimming around, trying futilely to chomp down on a ghost-pterodactyl. Because there was never a dull moment on Fandom Island if you could literally see the spirits of invasions past, apparently.

One thing Astrid had to admit was that this place definitely knew how to welcome new people. It was such a stark difference to the unceremonious shipping of foster kids from one place to the next that it almost made her forget that she was a ward of the state and she was pretty much only here because it was the only place they could put her.

Almost.

She stayed off to the side, of course, sitting on top of a table a bit removed from the cluster of others, sketchbook open in her lap as she wondered about what sorts of fucked up stories all these newer people had, trying to pick them out from the more familiar faces, taking it all in for a moment before she finally decided to start drawing, letting her long blonde hair create a curtain over her face and her work, with occasional glances up. She'd grabbed some food, but for now, until the scene started to come together a little bit more, she'd left her sandwich and little bowl of fruit untouched.

Duh, of course Summer was going to show up to the newbie picnic, even if she'd admit she was doing it less to meet and greet any new students or teachers and more to just parade around the fact that she was back. She wasn't looking for new faces, she was looking for familiar ones, but she'd be lying if she said she wasn't intrigued by the unfamiliar ones. It would be interesting to see if she could successfully pick out which new faces were New New and which were just Over the Summer New.

Naturally, with his Big Sibling duties taken care of, it was time for Sidon to enjoy the picnic , as well as find the other new faces and introduce himself to the other new students as well! His pumping arm was stretched and ready to go, his teeth felt particularly shiny, too! But first...he would have to swing by the food tables to grab something to eat, picking out whatever he could locate that had fish in it, as well as a slice or two (or five, he was a growing young Zora!) of pizza, the one human food he continually managed to find palatable for some odd reason.

You'd think a guy who was best friends with a prince would be a little less excited about a castle. But it wasn't like Prompto had ever been inside the palace in Insomnia and the idea that he might get to one day seriously overwhelmed him. This castle wasn't nearly as impressive, but it was still a. freaking. CASTLE. Ohhhh, he was getting so many pictures of this, he was going to run out of film soon, but he just kept snapping away, getting a few shots, at least one or two selfies with the castle in the background, and then he turned his lens toward the picnic as a whole, all the decorations, all the people, he wanted to capture it all.

And then the food! Definitely some pictures of that, his mouth watering as he considered the incredible spread of offerings. Were these all for them? So far, this school. was. AMAZING! It sure beat the pants off of his old school, so maybe this paperwork error was a blessing in disguise.

He snapped more pictures, using the camera in between them as a way to help him curb his desire to just grab one of everything and wolf it all down. Last thing he'd want to do is to fall into old habits in the middle of a new beginning! Pace yourself, Prompto; take a second and choose wisely on what looks the best...

...ah, screw it! It was a picnic, right? So now the real trick was going to figuring out how best to balance the three plates he'd filled as well as his drink until he made it to a table.

There were foods here that Nell had never seen and people wearing less clothing than Nell had ever imagined. She tried to keep her eyes politely turned away from those less-clothed than she thought she''d be looking at, but it was awful hard with so many of them.

Still, she was starving, so she figured she'd best make herself a plate of something to eat before she found a quiet place to sit and try and collect herself.

Eventually, she found a place on the grass where she could put her back right up against a tree, put her hands on the grass and let them calm her a bit.

New sibling and roommate both met, Tip settled in with some snacks and her camera, all set to capture the magic of a new fall semester.

She'd come a long way from her days of just snapping pictures of the aliens to show J.Lo. She was going for the full range of the Fandom experience.

So she was mostly snapping pictures of people who looked shell-shocked and unprepared for their new reality.

The picnics, Liam felt, were a useful opportunity to gauge the personalities of those just arriving to the island.

Also there was all the free food, which as someone who didn't cook, he definitely appreciated.

Ringo had come to the picnic straight from her Portal back to the island. Which explained why she was dragging her suitcase behind her, and why she made a bee-line for the food.

Okay, yeah, the trip had been the typical disaster that Portalocity was infamous for, and she was practically starving, but let's be honest: she would have headed straight for the food anyway.

This was Sabine's first picnic as someone who wasn't coming in new, so mostly she was standing with a drink and watching to see who all was here.

And, given last time, to see if anyone had any weird reactions to a very colorful Mandalorian hanging around in her armor.

Aloy wandered into the picnic late, having been unsure whether she wanted to bother with it.

Her life was immeasurably easier now that she was living without a roommate - it was tempting to spend her first fully free day tweaking her tools at home.

But hunger was a powerful motivator, and so near lunch, there'd be a redhead dressed partly in furs and partly in metal parts, piling on hamburgers.

Kitty always made a point to coming to these things, since you never knew when someone from your own world might show up. Mostly though she was taking advantage of the shade, and being able to sit.

Her rooming situation settled and her 'big sibling' met, Lana checked out the food, got a few things that didn't look too terrible, and went to sit on the grass.

She'd spent her entire life either in a city that rained constantly, or on a desert world. Being able to sit on grass in the sun was novel.

Aw yeah, if she wasn't going to get to go home, Yang was gonna enjoy the fuck out of this. She couldn't totally join in on the shirtless tradition, but she was just wearing a yellow bandeau that showed off her, ah, assets and kick-ass abs.

She had a plate piled high with food, and was gonna enjoy watching the new kids break.
