The tables and chairs had been scattered around the lawn - some near the food, some not, some in the shade, some not - and the food was ready for anyone who wanted to come by and greet the new people.

Octavia squinted at him, then down at his plate. "Are they serving jobi nuts? Is that what this is?"

'Insincere' was a really odd thing from him, okay? Even without the context she'd heard it in, just now.

"I guess," Octavia said. Sometimes it seemed like it had been easier to learn to speak Grounder than it was to learn the slang here. "It's not a great experience."

"Yeah, boy!" He was so proud of her for using that phrase that he held up a hand for a high-five. The drugging thing was less cool, but that's where they were.

She looked at his hand for a few seconds, then sighed and gave him the high five he was expecting. Maybe she was feeling generous today.
