Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

The tables and chairs had been scattered around the lawn - some near the food, some not, some in the shade, some not - and the food was ready for anyone who wanted to come by and greet the new people.

Well, it was more the 'colourful' part that caught Lana's eye; there were a decent number of Mandalorians around Kaas City.

She looked over the armor curiously. "That's different. Are those clan designs or just your own?"

"All my own," she answered, turning to look at her. "The armor is traditional, the rest is all me."

"It's...very bright," Lana said. "And skillfully done." It was a little ostentatious for her tastes, but given the way most Sith dressed, she wasn't throwing stones.

She gave a nod that was almost a bow. "Lana Beniko."

"Thank you. I'm Sabine." She still wasn't exactly using the last name much, just because she never felt like dealing with any issues that might bring up with people from her galaxy. "So I'm guessing you're from somewhere out in my galaxy?"

"Dromund Kaas," Lana said, nodding. "Well, and lately of Korriban, I suppose. You?"

"I don't know much about those places," Sabine said slowly, not entirely sure she knew anything about them. "Mandalore. Knownest, if we're being specific."

Not surprising, since by Sabine's time they were legends (ha).

She nodded. "I don't know much about Mandalore, either, apart from the obvious." That it was home to Mandalorians. "What brings you here?"

"A series of portals gone wrong," she said, kind of half sighing. She shrugged, though. "If I was going to get stuck anywhere, it could be worse. Did you come here on purpose?"

"Mm." Lana nodded. "I understood this place was strange and might have interesting things to learn, so I jumped at the chance."

"That's a choice," Sabine said, though she didn't think that was necessarily a bad thing. "It'll definitely throw you for some loops, but there is a lot to learn. As long as you don't expect anything resembling normal classes or... normal anything else."

"I have no idea what to expect from classes," Lana expected. "One of them is about charity?" She shook her head. Actually teaching doing things for other people? Novel! "What else might be odd around here?"

"We spent the summer at weekly competitions to lose a singing fish that came alive and turned giant and evil a couple weeks ago, and I think we beat it by finally appreciating it."

Yep.

"...Well, I can certainly see why you'd want to lose it."

Hey, she'd spent way too long in Sith ruins. Some of those artifacts were weird.

Okay, this didn't sound exactly normal, either, but... "How often does the school try to kill you?" If the answer was less than 'every day', it was still a step up.

"Only once so far, but I've only been here a few months," Sabine admitted. "I don't know that it was the school trying to kill us, though, considering how surprised the teachers seemed."

"Well, that's still an improvement over the Academy," Lana said wryly. "But I'll know not to let my combat skills get rusty."

Okay, now Sabine was a little cautious. "What Academy?"

"Korriban," Lana said, calmly but with no little pride. Then she laughed a bit ruefully. "Very prestigious, very good at weeding out the weak."

Killing them. The overseers were very good at killing them.

And here Sabine had thought the Imperial Academy was bad.

"That sounds-" Insane. "-intense. But I can promise the life and death situations have got to be at least a quarterly event."

It really was. There was a reason the Empire hadn't yet overrun the Republic with sheer numbers of Force sensitives.

"I imagine I can handle that." If she couldn't, she wouldn't; there was nothing more to be said. "I'll do my best, anyway." Which brought up another thought. "Are there places around here to train, do you know?"

"Depends on what you're looking for, but yeah. What kind of training?" she asked.

"Lightsaber, mostly," Lana answered. "Are there training dummies or remotes anywhere?"

If Kanan hadn't had the reaction to Sabine's arrival that he did, she might've namedropped him. But that wasn't her thing to tell.

"Not sure about remotes but I know there are training dummies in the salle in the dorms," she said, eyeing her. "So you're a Jedi?"

Lana gave her an odd look back. "Nooo, I'm Sith, of course. Do you know many Jedi from Dromund Kaas?"

She supposed there could be one or two, but honestly.

"No, but I don't know any Sith, either." Or any. And she'd maybe never heard the word before. "Here's a question you might not have gotten before today: when are you from?"

Lana blinked. No, she hadn't gotten that question yet. "Three years after the Treaty of Coruscant. Why?"
