Detention [5.04.08] - Saturday 800 to 1300 (the Danger Shop)

Harriet was looking suspiciously bright-eyed this morning as the detention-goers arrived. "Good morning. Today you're going to experience a little taste of Britain's ancient past. Possibly her imaginary past, but never mind. Today, each one of you is going to be Arthur, King of the Britons, and venture forth on a sacred quest for the Holy Grail."

She smiled at each of them in turn, looking far too amused. "It might not go quite as you expect it to," she added, then shooed them off. "Just go through that door to change into appropriate costume. Oh, and those of you with powers of any kind are not to use them. You are to approach this exercise as if you were an ordinary, non-magical, non-mutant, non-gifted human being. Arthur began his quest with only the blessing of God and strength of arms. You are to do the same."

...by garbing yourself in the proper attire. There are a large number of identical costumes (http://arago4.tnw.utwente.nl/stonedead/movies/holy-grail/thumbnails/03-we-are-all-britons.jpg) available, in all different sizes. Get dressed and help yourself to a shiny crown, sword and shield and don your chainmail and tunic.

Romeo blinked a little at the costumes. Well. This is familiar, he thought, then pulled on the tunic and chainmail.

He liked the sword. The crown he could do without.

Jenny grumbled to herself as she got into her costumery. Once she had her tunic and chainmail on, she shimmied out of her Union Jack t-shirt under the tunic and put it back on over the tunic. If she was going to be representing for England she was going to be representing for England right proper. Even if they didn't have the Union Jack back then.

Then she plunked a crown on her head at a rakish angle and asked, "How do I look?"

Amber got herself fitted in chainmail and tunic, grabbed a sword (how cool!), and positioned a shiny crown upon her head.

She was certainly ready even though she was still curious as to why she had detention in the first place.

Sokka proudly dressed in chainmail and crown, and donned his swordbelt, but raised an eyebrow at the tunic. "Do you have any with other designs on them?"

The sun was such a Fire Nation symbol.

Jaina raised an eyebrow at the costumes, but she'd probably worn worse to fit in somewhere. She would have much rather just held the crown, though.

Ronan was much more comfortable with the sword than any other aspect of the outfit; his armor tended more to the leather jacket variety than the chainmail and tunic, after all, and the crown was completely unfamiliar.

But the sun symbol reminded him of Roshaun, and that couldn't help but make him smile. If a bit sadly.

A stroll through the woods

And lovely woods they are, too, all green and vibrant, with a charming path. Well, charming except for a terrible battle blocking your way.

A knight in black battles a knight in green, only to triumph in the bloody defeat of the green knight, (quite obviously fake) blood fountaining out of him as he collapses to the ground.

Now the black knight stands, sword braced on the ground, blocking your path.

Romeo wasn't sure what to make of this, especially the spurting fake blood. "Good morrow, sir," he ventured. Perhaps politeness would let him pass.

Uh. Would you look at that. Amber cocked her head, mouth open slightly but she wasn't sure whether to be amused at the fake blood or be sickened by it.

"Hi," she said. "Battle well fought. Icky, but well fought."

Jaina's immediate reaction was to go to the green knight, but her brain caught up with her to remind her that this was a simulation, and she could probably take the black knight. "Excuse me," she told him, hoping he'd just let her pass.

Ronan eyed the fake fountain of blood, unable to determine if this were a spectacle staged for his benefit, or some other purpose. "Dai stihó," he called to the black-clad knight, even as his hand strayed toward the hilt of his sword. "Might I pass through?"

[Sorry for pinging in to this so late in the day! I ended up not being able to sleep until 9:30 this morning, so I've, ah, unexpectedly slept through most of the day. ^^;;; ]

Oh look, a castle

There's no door nor drawbridge in evidence - but maybe the grail could be inside? I'm sure that no doubt charming man who's watching you from the parapet would be able to help.

Jenny looked about a bit for a door before she decided this wasn't going well and decided to ask the chap on the parapet. "Oi!" she called up. "Have you seen a grail around here by any chance?"

Hmmm, rocky terrain

Your wild fleeing path away from the castle leads you into rocky terrain. On a tall rock stands a horned and hairy man, and wherever he points his finger, there is a huge, fiery explosion.

Surely he must know something about the grail.

Sokka was all OVER that. Especially the corn chips drenched in something liquid that was supposed to be chili and something yellow that probably wasn't actually cheese. Nachos were AWESOME.

A boat with a dragon prow floats into view. There's a calm lake in front of you, in the middle of the lake is an island, and on that island is a castle.

Yes! At long last, you have found Castle Aaaaaargh!

There's a swell of triumphant music and ethereal voices calling out Arrrrthurrrr. You'd best get in the boat.

Yup, we're doing Monty Python and the Holy Grail!

You can ping into the first three quest (forest, castle, enchanter) threads at the same time - you don't have to wait to complete one thread before you move to the next one - but you can't ping into the last thread (the boat) until you find out what happens to you in the enchanter thread. Some of you might not make it.

*SPOILERS* Everyone gets turned into a newt - either when they answer one of the three question incorrectly/say they don't know (at the end of the enchanter thread) or on the island with the castle.

Don't worry, you'll get better when you leave the danger shop.

I'm getting some sleep now. I should be up by noon EST, but you've got a ringer for the black knight, and she'll be up before me! Any concerns or questions, ask em here or get me on AIM @ iplayoneonfh.
