Detention [5.04.08] - Saturday 800 to 1300 (the Danger Shop)

Harriet was looking suspiciously bright-eyed this morning as the detention-goers arrived. "Good morning. Today you're going to experience a little taste of Britain's ancient past. Possibly her imaginary past, but never mind. Today, each one of you is going to be Arthur, King of the Britons, and venture forth on a sacred quest for the Holy Grail."

She smiled at each of them in turn, looking far too amused. "It might not go quite as you expect it to," she added, then shooed them off. "Just go through that door to change into appropriate costume. Oh, and those of you with powers of any kind are not to use them. You are to approach this exercise as if you were an ordinary, non-magical, non-mutant, non-gifted human being. Arthur began his quest with only the blessing of God and strength of arms. You are to do the same."

Sokka glared at Romeo and mouthed "pudding" at him soundlessly.

Being the exceedingly mature creature he was, Romeo promptly bit his thumb at Sokka.

Sokka looked at him in complete confusion. "Did you bite your thumb at me, sir?"

Romeo reflected that the rules of detention might not be on his side if he said aye.

"I do bite my thumb, sir," he replied, voice deliberately airy.

[OOC: hahahaha]

Sokka was still staring. "Okay, but... why???"

He raised an eyebrow. "If that's supposed to be some sort of insult, it doesn't work unless I know what it means."

[OOC: :D Today is a detention FULL of quotes!]

Romeo elaborately rolled his eyes before addressing Sokka in the most condescending tone he could manage.

He grew up with servants. The boy could get pretty condescending.

"If you're too dull to take my meaning, that's scarcely my fault. I don't ask you why you wear your hair like that."

"I'm from another WORLD and another CULTURE, so I've never had anyone bite their THUMB at me, NO," Sokka replied, even more condescendingly. "And you do NOT insult the hair!!! Especially not someone with funny flippy hair like yours!"

Romeo glared. Hard. "I am from a different culture as well," he said, and he wasn't yelling; he was deadly quiet. "Do you need me to act like any TV-addled idiot here for you to understand me? I will, then: The thumb biting means much the same as this."

And here he gave a classic extended middle finger.

Withdrawing it to brush his hair back, he tossed off, "There is nothing wrong with my hair, though your opinion of it matters less to me than mine of yours seems to matter to you."

"Well, that's just RUDE," Sokka replied, returning the gesture.

"So is mouthing 'pudding' at me when I've made it more than clear I don't want to talk about that," Romeo pointed out.

"It was rude?"

Sokka... actually looked concerned. "I was only trying to be annoying."

"Of course it was rude," Romeo said, his wall dropping slightly, even though he still looked as though he was trying to ascertain if Sokka was stupid. "I don't punch people just for annoying me."

Sokka shrugged. "I'm really good at being annoying. It was just supposed to be a little bit of fun."

"Fun for you, perhaps. Not for me," Romeo said.

Grudgingly, he admitted, "I might have had more of a sense of humor about it if it had involved someone else."

Sokka nodded. "Yeah, I totally get that. Next time you see Luke or... what's his name. Luke's friend. Uh. Gavin, that's it. Either of them. Say 'tiiiiiger'. Just like that, with the accent."

Romeo didn't know Luke or Gavin beyond having seen them in class, and didn't entirely trust Sokka not to try to get him punched.

But if Sokka was willing to bury the hatchet, he could too. "Thanks. I will."

Sokka wasn't trying to get him punched, or NOT trying to get him punched; he was just giving another example of people he liked to annoy for the fun of it. And aside from von Doom occasionally trying to kill him, he really didn't get hurt by it as often as he probably should have.

"Also, watch out for Luke's pet robot. It videotapes EVERYTHING."
