Detention [5.04.08] - Saturday 800 to 1300 (the Danger Shop)

Harriet was looking suspiciously bright-eyed this morning as the detention-goers arrived. "Good morning. Today you're going to experience a little taste of Britain's ancient past. Possibly her imaginary past, but never mind. Today, each one of you is going to be Arthur, King of the Britons, and venture forth on a sacred quest for the Holy Grail."

She smiled at each of them in turn, looking far too amused. "It might not go quite as you expect it to," she added, then shooed them off. "Just go through that door to change into appropriate costume. Oh, and those of you with powers of any kind are not to use them. You are to approach this exercise as if you were an ordinary, non-magical, non-mutant, non-gifted human being. Arthur began his quest with only the blessing of God and strength of arms. You are to do the same."

"This no powers nonsense is for the birds," Jenny whined observed, but she nonetheless headed toward the zappy man, ready to dive out of the way at a moment's notice. She knew a bit about the 'point and explode' trade herself, after all.

The horny guy sent another burst of highly unlikely looking fiery explosion off in a random direction. "I am a great enchanter!" he yelled. BOOOM! "Seek ye the grrrail?"

It seemed to be the day for outrageous accents; this was a Scottish accent nearly as outrageous as the French had been.

Follow only if ye be a woman of valour, for the entrance to this cave is guarded by a creature so foul, so cruel that no man yet has fought with it and lived! Bones of full fifty men lie strewn about its lair. So, brave King, if you do doubt your courage or your strength, come no further, for death awaits you all with nasty, big, pointy teeth."

And the horny hairy man led the way to a cave, the entrance to which was strewn with bones.

"Behold the cave of Caerbannog!" The horny man pointed dramatically at a...wee white rabbit who'd just hopped out of the cave. "And there! See it's great nasty vicious pointy teeth! You cannae hope to defeat it!"

"It's a bunny," Jenny pointed out in tones of 'are you f-ing serious.' Nonetheless, she drew her sword and gave loving thought to just zapping the bunny.
