Detention [5.04.08] - Saturday 800 to 1300 (the Danger Shop)

Harriet was looking suspiciously bright-eyed this morning as the detention-goers arrived. "Good morning. Today you're going to experience a little taste of Britain's ancient past. Possibly her imaginary past, but never mind. Today, each one of you is going to be Arthur, King of the Britons, and venture forth on a sacred quest for the Holy Grail."

She smiled at each of them in turn, looking far too amused. "It might not go quite as you expect it to," she added, then shooed them off. "Just go through that door to change into appropriate costume. Oh, and those of you with powers of any kind are not to use them. You are to approach this exercise as if you were an ordinary, non-magical, non-mutant, non-gifted human being. Arthur began his quest with only the blessing of God and strength of arms. You are to do the same."

That was enough to make Ronan break character. "Excuse me," he said, his Irish lilt coming out full force. "I'm Irish."

"HA! You cannot fool us, lying Arthur King type person! Irish, English, it is all the same." Lots more snickering, then, and the guard blew a huge raspberry at him. "We will not let you eento the castle! Go and boil your bottom, son of a silly person. I blow my nose at you, so-called Arthur King. Thpppppt! Thppt! Thppt!"

"Son of a..." Ronan stared up at the French knight and just broke out laughing. Was anything in this detention serious? "Are you sure I couldn't convince you?" he asked. "I've got some lovely Guinness that needs sharing."

When in doubt, share booze.

... He'd figure out later what to do when they realised he didn't actually have any.

The French guard wrinkled up his nose in disgust. "I don't wanna talk to you no more, you empty headed animal food trough wiper! I fart in your general direction! Your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries!"

Well, Ronan had to admit that, if nothing else, the insults were... original. Creative.

Blatantly and unrepentantly ridiculous.

"So that's a no on the grail, then?" he asked.

"Thpppppbbbbbbbbt!" And livestock started flying over the wall, aimed at Ronan.

A duck, some chickens, a surprised goat, some sheep, and several rabbits.

"You have got to be kidding me," Ronan muttered, staring for just a moment before he darted out of the way to avoid the launched livestock. "Dairine is not hearing about this."

"Mooooooooooooooooooo." It was a cow, and it was coming right for him.

The rain of critters showed no signs of stopping.

"Dairine is definitely not hearing about this," Ronan affirmed, even as he watched the impending doom-by-bovine. "No one is hearing about this."

Since he didn't dodge, the cow landed on him.

It didn't squish him, though. Instead, just before it made contact, ground, it transformed into a humming ball of Newt-inducing light that flashed down to cover him in a yellow glow.

Of Newtness. That turns people into newts.
