The Library

[janet_fraiser]

Janet unlocked the library and walked in, setting her laptop down warily behind the desk and trying not to think about Hathor the last time she was in here. She took a drink from her extra-large mug of coffee and started working.

ETA: She popped out a moment later and stuck a note up on the door: "New teachers need to check out the Rules of Conduct and fill out a library card application in blue or black ink, damn it. Please come inside for a form. Thank you."

Mac walks into the library and comes up to Janet.

"Excuse me? Do we have any Shi'ar to English dictionaries or phrase books?"

"Hi," said Janet, blinking up at him. Wow. He looked just like the Colonel. General. Whatever. "You're--" She paused and gathered her thoughts. "New teacher? You actually need to fill out a library card application first and check out the prof's Rules of Conduct." She handed him a form and a black ink pen.

Mac looks over the Rules of conduct, raising his eyebrows in confusion over a couple of the elements.

"Yep. I'm the new Shop teacher. Name's MacGyver, but everybody calls me Mac."

Mac fills out the application card, carefully avoiding filling in his first name.

"Still looking for new students if you're interested in joining up."

Lee sneaks up on her. "Hey, I thought we weren't supposed to have food and drink in the library, Janet."

Janet smirked at him. "I'm library staff, remember?" She discreetly shoved the mug of coffee she'd brought in as a bribe gift to the prof out of sight. "Besides, it's in a travel mug. I'm well-versed in how to keep coffee from spilling all over important papers."

Lee nods. "Right. Good to see you all, um, nice and not slutty and not insanely meglomanical, Janet."

Elizabeth skids into the library, beaming and grabs Janet.

"I actually won!"

Janet stands up and leans over the desk to hug Elizabeth. "That's great!" she exclaims. "Was there any doubt, though? You're the best choice."

Sam walks quickly into the library and puts her toolbox down on the floor. "Janet, did you hear about Li..." She stops when she sees Liz, and grabs the other girl into a tight hug.

Today is so totally the best day ever.

Paige walks in clearly looking for something specific, "Hey Janet, how are you? I need a magic book, are they all in Special Collections?"

"I think Special Collections is in lockdown right now," says Janet. "Something about a student being turned into a cat?" I'm good, though. Thanks for your help the other night."

Parker walks in with dark shades, carrying a coffee for Dr. Pierson and a small one for herself.

"Good morning, Janet." She smiles. "See the results?"

[The Doctor walks by, reading the note idly. Two seconds later, he backtracks, walking backwards, and opens the library door.]

Er. Hello. I'm not a new teacher, but I didn't ever sign up for a library card. Might I do that now? [charming smile]

Janet recognizes him from the zombie attacks. He's the one who's friends with the prof and has the incredibly strange blue box on the edge of town. The one that was bigger inside rather than out.

"Hi," says Janet, grinning back at him. "Sure, no problem." She hands him an application and a pen full of black ink.

Methos enters the library, looking well-rested and alert. Amazing what sleeping in an actual bed will do (http://www.livejournal.com/community/fandomtownies/161879.html). (Sadly, this means you one must head over to the apartment building for early-morning muzzy Methos in boxers.)

He stops for a second when he sees Janet, then approaches her. "Good morning. Read any incomprehensable ancient Egyptian lately?"

"Hi," says Janet. "Sorry about last week. I was kind of--" She rolls her eyes. "Possessed. Stupid alien parasites. It's a long story which, no, I'm not in the mood to share. How have you been?" She shoves a travel mug full of coffee at him. I'm doing this to make up for being such a bitch last week. Just so you know.

Draco walks into the libarary. There is a burn mark on his cheek, he looks like he's had a rough night.

"Hello Janet. Nice to see you're not posessed or trapped in a bathroom today."

"Hello, Draco," says Janet. "I'm always glad when a day possesses a passing resemblance to normal." She eyes the burn mark on his cheek. "Have you been to the clinic to have that looked at yet? Untreated burns can get infected easily."

Angelus came in. He was wearing black jeans, a dark blue button-down shirt, and a long black overcoat. He looked around, sat down at a free table, and began reading whatever book or magazine was in front of him.

Seeing Angelus in *her* (okay, Dr. Pierson's) library, was enough to give Parker pause.

But she recovered.

"Looking for the next big thing in hair?" she snarked. "Or just new ideas for your next world takeover via the media?"
