The Library

[janet_fraiser]

Janet unlocked the library and walked in, setting her laptop down warily behind the desk and trying not to think about Hathor the last time she was in here. She took a drink from her extra-large mug of coffee and started working.

ETA: She popped out a moment later and stuck a note up on the door: "New teachers need to check out the Rules of Conduct and fill out a library card application in blue or black ink, damn it. Please come inside for a form. Thank you."

Janet perks up. "Party?" she asks.

Elizabeth grins. "There's going to be a number of them going on, I expect. And really, when have we passed by any excuse for a party?"

"Good point," says Janet. "Just let me know when. You know I'll be there."

Elizabeth grins. "Knowing our lot, chances are you'll be there as it starts in our room," she says.

"You talk like I'd make certain of it or something," says Janet innocently.

"Now would I insinuate something like that?" Elizabeth asks, equally as innocently.

"I would have thought so, yes," says Janet. "But you're just so angelic that my suspicions have evaporated." She bursts out laughing.

Elizabeth joins in with the laughter. "We're just both perfect angels, really."

Sam grins. "Yeah, and if I had a dollar for every time someone believed that who shouldn't, we wouldn't have to worry about how to pay for the alcohol."

"We don't have to worry about how to pay for the alcohol... that's what the Air Force is for," Elizabeth said with a wink.

"Of course! We need to celebrate your incredible (if completely predictable) victory!"

Sam grins again. Between this, and the shop class that wasn't, and the math thing...yeah.

Elizabeth laughs, giving up on protesting to her friends. "It's a good a reason as any!"

She grins. "Yep. And it's most certainly better than a drowning your sorrows one."

"Yup. And we've had too many of that other kind lately," she said, glancing at Janet.

Elizabeth nods slowly. "Fun party! We will be having a fun party damnit! It's my first decree as an elected official."

She giggles

"Are you allowed to make decrees as an elected official? Don't you have to wait and just sign the stuff that crosses your desk," Sam asked, giggling.

"I don't think I get to sign anything much as veep," she says, grinning. "Which might give my signature a slight chance to remain legible until I reach college, at least!"

"I'm doomed," said Janet. "My signature's already illegible."

"Mine used to be, but," she drops her voice, "getting used to smaller hands again meant that it sorta went legible again. Something I'd not seen since I was about fourteen!"
