The Library

[janet_fraiser]

Janet unlocked the library and walked in, setting her laptop down warily behind the desk and trying not to think about Hathor the last time she was in here. She took a drink from her extra-large mug of coffee and started working.

ETA: She popped out a moment later and stuck a note up on the door: "New teachers need to check out the Rules of Conduct and fill out a library card application in blue or black ink, damn it. Please come inside for a form. Thank you."

Liz rubs Sam's shoulder comfortingly. "Remember we'll be waiting for you with ice-cream and alcohol once it's over. Just take it to your room. Or give us some notice, so we can find somewhere else to sleep that night" She winks

Sam holds Liz's hand. "Thanks. I may need it. Ack! I'm so sorry about that! I owe you Godiva. This having a roommate thing completely stinks--there's just no privacy."

She squeezes Sam's hand. "I'm sure it'll be fine... Mmm... Godiva. It wasn't that much of a problem as you weren't involved all night long. Janet and I were fine together in the common room. And yes, it does stink"

*leans into Sam's hug* "So... I'm guessing that we're going to be partying tonight, eh?" *grins*

Janet perks up. "Party?" she asks.

Elizabeth grins. "There's going to be a number of them going on, I expect. And really, when have we passed by any excuse for a party?"

"Good point," says Janet. "Just let me know when. You know I'll be there."

"Of course! We need to celebrate your incredible (if completely predictable) victory!"

Sam grins again. Between this, and the shop class that wasn't, and the math thing...yeah.

Elizabeth laughs, giving up on protesting to her friends. "It's a good a reason as any!"

"What else are you going to do, sneak into the library and make out? Don't worry about it!"

Hmm. It's another option. Er, what time is the library open?

I work here. You might be able to borrow my key some time. As long as you claim you stole it if you're ever caught.

Janet, I know how to pick locks, remember? This way you won't get in trouble. Or, y'know, Jack could swipe it.

I'd forgotten. Hey, could you teach me how to do that some time? And yes, whatever excuse works.

"We'll work something out," says Janet. "I mean, come on, Charlie can crash with one of the guys, and Aeryn can just stay with John." She grins. "Either someone will put Liz and I up for a night, or we could trade room keys as long as your roommate doesn't mind."

"Maybe you should have kept the keys to your old room," Elizabeth laughs. "I expect Cally would let us stay."

"Oh, no!" exclaims Janet. "Owls. Exploding letters. A room full of mail." Janet shakes her head. "Wherever Ginny Weasley is and whatever she's doing right now, she owes me for putting up with those owls as long as I did."

Elizabeth tried not to snicker. "Well, I'm glad you changed your room assignment. And I can hopefully safely say that we'll never have owls in our room."

"And my truffles are still in my desk," says Janet dryly. "I hope. Yes. Just warn us. We won't gossip too much in your hearing."

Elizabeth tries not to giggle at the mention of truffles, and makes sure not to look at Sam. "I can safely say that I've not touched your desk. Apart from arranging the pens by color and straightening up the books."

No, because we'd never gossip about friends. Really

Janet is unable to stop from snickering. "You're deeply disturbing, Liz. I'm a scientist and I don't even organize things that much."

Elizabeth pouts. "I need to keep busy when I'm nervous, and organizing comes naturally to me. I blame my mother."
