The Library

Janet unlocked the library and walked in, setting her laptop down warily behind the desk and trying not to think about Hathor the last time she was in here. She took a drink from her extra-large mug of coffee and started working.

ETA: She popped out a moment later and stuck a note up on the door: "New teachers need to check out the Rules of Conduct and fill out a library card application in blue or black ink, damn it. Please come inside for a form. Thank you."

"There was a manual?" asked Janet. "For alien technology? I guess he showed up here when he couldn't find Daniel the jerk."

"You asked him about it! At the dance? Both ways? As in friendship and--what? Sam?"

"How to make Jack O'Neill giddy? Aside from nitrous oxide? I feel confident that you're up to the challenge."

Janet put her hands on Sam's shoulders to steady her. "Deep breaths," she said calmly. "In, then out." Don't start laughing at what you just said, Janet. Don't. "They're men. If they didn't confuse us, life would be too easy, right?"

"No, he had a dictionary in his hand, so I guess he already saw you. He just was having trouble with the translation. Yeah, there were even diagrams, can you believe it?"

"Well...I asked him whether 'caring about me more than he should' was a romantic thing or a 'not wanting to send a good friend into combat' thing, and he said it was both. Which, y'know kind of left me without anywhere to go in my argument. Naturally, it was all subtextual."

*huge grin*

Sam inhaled and exhaled as instructed and tried not to think R-rated thoughts. "Yes."

"He zoomed in practically the instant I opened the library," said Janet. "He must have been impatient. There were diagrams? He's spoiled."

Left you without anywhere to go except for the part where he didn't explain what he meant--even subtextually, damn it--for five years now.

"Shame we're too fond of them to swear them off completely." Janet's suppressed smile was starting to emerge again.

Sam snorted. "Tell me about it. I'd love to see what he could do with Goa'uld technology and no manual in sight."

"Okay, point. But, to be fair, I didn't ask him, either."

"Yeah, it definitely is." She blushed again, seeing Janet's smile. Was she going to be spending all day like this?
