Fandom High Graduation Ceremony, Class of 2012, Early Saturday Evening (Part 2)

Were you all enjoying your graduation, children? Ingvar certainly hoped you were. It was so much fun, after all! Though... it could be a little more fun, couldn't it? It felt as if something was missing somehow. Something to really make it... fun.

Ingvar knew what it was.

And so, while the graduates were still on and around the stage, the earth began to rumble. Large black clouds of smoke pushed out of Ingvar's volcano and into the air, obscuring the sky and the moon. Soon, the air was covered in a thick black blanket of darkness.

The tune of the rumbling shifted.

Around the stage, clear protective walls sprung up. This was not Fandom's first tango on graduation day, thank you. She knew how to take care of what was hers.

Unfortunately, Ingvar knew its mother well. Moments later, it began to rain: a thick downpour of familiar plastic poppets in varying levels of creepiness, but also nice, brown, fluffy ...red-eyed, sharp-clawed teddy bears. And leading the charge, teeth-first--

"DROP BEARS!"

Kahlan and Richard were not expecting, well, that. While they were aware that Cara was perfectly competent (and probably enjoying herself more than she'd been all ceremony) in a fight, they didn't enjoy not being able to help.

So, yes, Ingvar, you were getting glared at. In stereo.

Now this was more like the planets Vestara had been to lately.

Once she realized she wasn't in any immediate danger, she relaxed a bit. She wasn't inclined to help one bit and didn't much care how this went for anyone aside from Ben.

Who she'd be watching to see how he did.

Cordelia let out a slightly appalled squawk of disapproval. "Seriously?" she exclaimed. "My graduation was so much worse. We had vampires!"

Jono had been witness to a couple of graduations over the years, and so he was neither surprised nor particularly worried when the freaky playthings started falling from the sky.

He was kind of gunning for maybe one or two of those drop bears to miss their mark so that he'd get to play too, but Jonothon's high hopes rarely managed to get him what he wanted.

It was almost refreshing to Zayne that he knew for a fact that this couldn't be blamed on him. He was a little concerned about the graduates, but he figured they should be fine.

Scott's first instinct was to get up and start optic blasting things.

Yeah, it surprised him too.

But the walls were up and the students knew what they were doing. Even if some of them weren't expecting something like this, a few of them had been in his Leadership class, so they knew how to deal with weird crap like this cropping up at the last minute of school events.

Scott didn't blink. This kind of thing happened at Xavier's just about every other week. It didn't look like the school was even going to be demolished in the fight.

In fact, he was pretty sure he ran almost this exact scenario in the Danger Room a few months back. He watched with interest, but didn't expect anything too bad to happen as a result of the attack.

That would be Bo -- since despite her SECURITY shirt and the weapon on her hip, she apparent didn't have anything else to do -- nudging Zoe with her elbow and pointing to that flask of hers. "Sharing is caring. Anything to get the Weathergirls out of my head."

Luke's lightsaber was out and lit before he realized that the creatures were not aimed at him.

When he realized where they were going, he relaxed a bit. Ben was more than able to take care of himself against toys.

Harper shuddered at the sight of the drop bears. They reminded her a little too much of the Rodents of Unusual Size that she'd run into a while back.

General Caraway was on his feet, blood pounding, when the volcano first rumbled. He had reached the edge of the stands when the clear walls slammed up before him, and then -- then he spotted the monsters descending like a storm upon the graduates.

A Lunar Cry? Here?

He pounded on the wall, uselessly. Madness. His daughter was in there.

"Someone get this down," he shouted.

"Karla." Khardeen grabbed her arm, tugging her backwards slightly, while Aaron scanned the crowd once more for Cassidy. "What's going on here?"

Shields flashed up over them, and their weapons were out, shifting into a practiced defensive stance, Karla tucked between them.

Jasper was... less than amused by this turn of events. He'd known Fandom was strange, thanks to the stories he'd heard from Alice -- and from Cassidy, when she'd visited them -- but this was... no. Just no.

But he knew his wife could take care of herself, so he wasn't actually worried.

Lucivar's wings flared, mostly in irritation at being excluded from the fight. However, since nothing seemed to be escaping out here, he contented himself with sitting back and critiquing Warren's performance.

And, you know, everyone else's, but mostly Warren's.

While laughing at how huffy the witchling got, being shepherded by the boyos.

Graduates: Playtime with Ingvar!

As creepy dolls, evil teddy bears, and freaking drop bears rained down onto the graduates, Zoe sighed and ran up to the closest wall, banging on it to try to get people's attention. "Weapons in the trunk behind the podium! Use whatever you can! Be careful!" she yelled.

Then she turned around, pulled out a flask (hey, the school had their preparations, and she had hers), and took a quick drink before going back to watching the battle. The graduates were as prepared as they could be, but that didn't mean she and the others couldn't stay as close as possible.

Graduates: FIGHT!

The trunk of weapons contained everything from blunt and sharp objects to energy guns, to ropes and swords and whatever the heck else people tended to stash in the weapons locker and the salle. If you wanted to arm yourself, this would be the time to do it.

And then Fandom had enough...

When it became clear that the thick black clouds were not going to subside, it was time to let the graduates rest. They'd fought well, but this was clearly something a mother would have to deal with herself.

One last rumble shook the ground, starting beneath the lawn and building across the island and into the water until it ended at Ingvar with a sharp crack. As quickly as the blanket of darkness had formed, it disappated into the air, ending the rain of toys and clearing up the sky. The walls around the graduates dropped, and everything went back to how it had been when the ceremony ended.

Well, except for the bits of dolls and bears scattered around, but that was for the clean-up crew to handle.

Across the way, the volcano settled, but the lava on the island simmered and bubbled petulantly. Ingvar had only been trying to help! Wasn't Hot Topic still cool?

And finally things were quiet and Miley poked her head out of her hiding place. "Is that it?" she called. "Are we done?"

Because look, she'd gotten hit in the shin by a freaking bear. She was not taking any chances.
