Were you all enjoying your graduation, children? Ingvar certainly hoped you were. It was so much fun, after all! Though... it could be a little more fun, couldn't it? It felt as if something was missing somehow. Something to really make it... fun.

Ingvar knew what it was.

And so, while the graduates were still on and around the stage, the earth began to rumble. Large black clouds of smoke pushed out of Ingvar's volcano and into the air, obscuring the sky and the moon. Soon, the air was covered in a thick black blanket of darkness.

The tune of the rumbling shifted.

Around the stage, clear protective walls sprung up. This was not Fandom's first tango on graduation day, thank you. She knew how to take care of what was hers.

Unfortunately, Ingvar knew its mother well. Moments later, it began to rain: a thick downpour of familiar plastic poppets in varying levels of creepiness, but also nice, brown, fluffy ...red-eyed, sharp-clawed teddy bears. And leading the charge, teeth-first--

"DROP BEARS!"

"Good to hear," Luke said. "Ender's explained a little bit about how physics work in your universe--" where it didn't take two weeks to cross a galaxy, weird, "--so I hope it didn't take months for you to get here."

"Our portal is close to Earth, and to a large space station," Petra interjected. "We were fine."

She was still eyeing Luke as if she was trying to figure out his deal.

"Is there something you'd like to know about me, general?" Luke asked her.

"You were looking at us earlier," Petra said. "I was actually going to ask you the same question."

"I was just interested in finding out a bit more about the friends and relatives of a boy my son spends much of his time with," Luke said easily.

"Then let's have it," said Petra.

Not so easily; there was a bit of an edge to her voice.

"How did you meet him?" he asked.

"He was a loudmouthed smartass Launchie transferred early into my army," Petra said, crossing her arms. "Since we had so much in common, we bonded."

Luke's lips quirked up. "My son definitely attracts the loudmouthed smartasses," he declared.

"Your son is a loudmouthed smartass, or at least he was when I knew him," Petra said.

"You know Ben too?" Luke looked a little surprised.

"I spent some time with him," Petra said. "He helped me out."

"That sounds like Ben," Luke said with a proud smile. "How did he help you out?"

"That's classified," Peter said. Lightly. "I'm afraid."

Petra rolled her eyes at him. "He came with me and my husband while we were on the run from a madman," she said. "And looking for Ender."

Luke's eyes flicked down quickly to check for a ring on Peter's finger. The only person who had ever overridden his opinion like Petra had with so little thought about consequences was Mara. "I'm glad Ben was able to help you: assisting people is one of the primary callings of the Jedi."

That phrasing made Petra lift an eyebrow. For some reason, it reminded her uncomfortably of Battle School.

"Well, as long as he's following what's in your Jedi guidebook," she said.

"Oh, the guidebook's pretty fluid," Luke said with a little smile. "I've been making it up as I go along."

That's not as reassuring as you think it is, Luke.

Petra snorted softly. "Now that sounds familiar," she said.

Peter shot her a funny look. It made her wish Suriyawong was here, because he would appreciate the irony. (Or was it similarity?) "I hope your boy is as good as he seems."

"Better," Luke replied promptly, smiling proudly.
