Fandom High Graduation Ceremony, Class of 2012, Early Saturday Evening (Part 2)

Were you all enjoying your graduation, children? Ingvar certainly hoped you were. It was so much fun, after all! Though... it could be a little more fun, couldn't it? It felt as if something was missing somehow. Something to really make it... fun.

Ingvar knew what it was.

And so, while the graduates were still on and around the stage, the earth began to rumble. Large black clouds of smoke pushed out of Ingvar's volcano and into the air, obscuring the sky and the moon. Soon, the air was covered in a thick black blanket of darkness.

The tune of the rumbling shifted.

Around the stage, clear protective walls sprung up. This was not Fandom's first tango on graduation day, thank you. She knew how to take care of what was hers.

Unfortunately, Ingvar knew its mother well. Moments later, it began to rain: a thick downpour of familiar plastic poppets in varying levels of creepiness, but also nice, brown, fluffy ...red-eyed, sharp-clawed teddy bears. And leading the charge, teeth-first--

"DROP BEARS!"

Raven was almost sad that her docile drop bears had vanished, but she was glad the fight was over and that everyone seemed relatively unscathed.

Dinah snickered and wandered over, putting an arm around her shoulder. "Nicely done."

Raven turned to give Dinah a big hug. "I am sorry that the occasion was marred by violence, though I am not entirely surprised," she said. "Still, it is very good to see you."

"I didn't expect anything else, really," Dinah said, returning the hug tightly. "At least you didn't end up naked at any point? Also, they were cute when they quit biting people."

Raven's eyes grew wide. "Oh, Azar, if I had been naked I would have teleported away immediately," she said, horrified by the thought.

Dinah snickered, remembering her own graduation ceremony, and the impromptu togas that had been necessary. "So yeah, awesome ceremony! And you're graduated! You're a grown-up!"

"I do not feel any more grown up," Raven said. "Just still anxious about the future."

She remembered that graduation as well. Rubbing drop bear bellies had been much better.

"You've got some down-time. Almost four months' worth," Dinah felt like she had to say. "And back-up plans, if you don't think of anything more exciting. You'll be okay." She squeezed her shoulder. "And! I brought your new New Gotham ID's -- Barbara put a rush on it, but she said she can do all the back-up work later, so no one will ever guess you didn't grow up in my world."

"Oh, thank you!" Raven said happily. That was one obstacle conquered at least. "I suspect that will make things like registering for college much easier."

"Raven!" Karla looked at her friend in mock-anger and shook her head. "What is the rule?!"

"I did not take the bears within myself!" Raven protested. "And they were not evil, just hungry. Do you think Prince Lucivar saw? Perhaps he will now realize there is no need for sticks."

Karla was just going to laugh at her. "You're adorable when you're naive," she said, shaking her head. "Lucivar won't stop pestering you until you comply. And he's had seventeen hundred years to perfect his stubbornness."

"He can pester all he wishes," Raven said firmly. "I will not relent." She could out-stubborn him. Sticks could HURT someone, Lucivar!

That was their POINT, Raven!

"I'm looking forward to the two of you arguing about that for a long time," Karla said, leaning against her shoulder. "So...feel good and graduated now?"

Raven slipped her arm around Karla. "I suppose so," she said. "I do not feel very much different. Perhaps a little older."

Karla leaned back and eyed Raven critically. "The wrinkles are setting in," she said. "But you don't look a day over thirty, I promise."

"I do not have wrinkles!" Raven said indignantly.

She was going to live until the 30th century, thank you very much!

"Well, that was interesting," said Hoshi as she found Raven in the crowd. "But now you're a graduate! How does it feel?"

"Frightening," Raven admitted. "I am still trying to figure out what I will do now."

But she held her arms out for a hug from her friend, happy to see her.

Hoshi happily gave Raven a hug. "Just take it one step at a time. Today, you defeated a bunch of really creepy bears. Tomorrow, you deal with the next thing the island cooks up," she said.

"Hopefully it will be more like a rain of jello than carnivorous stuffed animals," Raven said, wrinkling her nose as she hugged Hoshi back.

"Mmmm, jello rain sounds good," said Hoshi with a grin. "Nothing fun like that happens in my world."

"How have you been doing?" Raven asked. "I hope all has been well in your world. We were forced to pretend a short time ago for a week that Fandom was a normal school, but fortunately that should not happen again."

"I would hate to have to pretend that this was a normal place," said Hoshi, frowning. "And I've been good, though it's been a little lonely. People don't hang out in common rooms and share meals at my university like they do in Fandom."

"I hope that if I attend college it will not be like that for me," Raven said, frowning slightly as well. "I would miss that a great deal. It is how I met many of my friends here in Fandom."
