Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

The weather had turned out absolutely lovely for today's picnic, through no interference of dark magic (as far as anyone knew). The bonfire had been scrapped for the season, replaced with more blue and gold chairs and tables for people to sit at. The usual buffet was out, and this time there were plates and to-go containers, because really, no one should have to resort to the unsanitary measure of pocket food in the 21st century.

So, her little sibling this time was called Beaker. Wearing a nametag of her own, Breq was looking around to see if she could spot someone wearing one with that name on.

Oh, thank goodness, NAMETAGS. Everyone on the bus thought Beaker's name was Meep.

He put one on and began searching through the extremely tall people (he only came to about waist height) for a Breq-looking person.

"Meep meep?" he inquired, glancing way, way up.

Norman was intending to be nice, okay? He'd put on a nametag to be helpful, and was standing close to the check-in table, hoping to spot a... well, a Sabine. Which, beyond being a girl, there wasn't really much that came to mind when asking the question, 'What does a Sabine look like?'

Names were funny like that.

"Um, Sabine? Has anyone here seen a Sabine?"

Really, there were maybe three new girls, it wasn't like he had to wade through huge crowds of strangers or anything.

Yes, she had climbed up onto the picnic table closest to the nametags and was shouting into the crowd.

"JAAAAAYLAAAAH. HEY, JAYLAH? I'M LOOKING FOR A JAYLAH OVER HERE!"

Peridot was rarely subtle.

Aloy wasn't sure why the school had decided she'd be a good sibling to anyone, but she put her best friendly (if, as always, skeptical) expression on as she looked around the picnic.

At least there weren't very many new ones, and the one Aloy was looking for probably looks as out of place as she felt. Astrid kept fiddling with the nametag on her shirt between looking around, trying to get the lay of the land first before deciding where best to just put herself somewhere off to the side and out of the way.

While Sidon's approach might not have been quite as...bold as, say, some of the others, he did take the task of locating his newest sibling to heart by approaching each of the new faces with a bit of a bow, smoothed out the nametag that seemed to be having difficulty adhering to his skin, and looked down (and down) to ask, "Pardon me, but you wouldn't happen to go by the name Manfred Bernardo, would you?"

Thankfully, there weren't many of them, so the going should be quick and he shouldn't have to bother too many people in his asking around.

Norman had gotten a message earlier telling him that the other side of his dorm room had, in fact, been reassigned, and so he was here, partly to meet his new little sibling (surprised that the school had trusted him with a little sibling), and partly to meet his new roomie.

He squinted at the room assignment, and then looked around for a Jaylah. Which shouldn't be too hard, he supposed. He'd already met one of the three new girls, that left two to pick from.

A roommate didn't seem so bad. Manfred had spent his entire life sharing an RV with his grandma, he was used to sharing space. He just needed to find this Beaker no-last-name person.

She was carrying a small basket, with gifts for the new kids. Time to try and make some connections.

Ah, back in the teacher's hat, was it? Kanan was pretty okay with that. It looked like he had a pretty good class, at least from the names that he'd recognized, and the kids on the bus had all seemed to be decent, if occasionally strange, ones. Plus some person in the office had made the mistake of trusting him with the care and handling of a new teacher, which was going to be an interesting bonus, wasn't it?

Poor Liam. He was pretty sure he'd met the guy all of once, and then had kind of steered clear. Nothing personal. Kanan just tended to avoid local law enforcement wherever he went. He hummed as he looked over the crowd, and then shrugged and put another few strawberries onto his plate. His reward to himself for not blowing up the shuttle.

Ah, new people day.

Yeah, Fandom! Reno was here! And he was kind of squinting a little as he looked around. Not out of suspicion or anything, no. It was more that he'd been in Ino's Midgar for months now, and if there was one thing he could say about living in a place that never saw sunlight, it was that going to a place with sunlight was always a weird little adjustment.

Anyway, he had a bag over his shoulder with like the two things to his name in it, and one of those things was a ferret. He'd sort out little things like where he was going to sleep tonight later.

He was back.

It was a mildly confused-looking Edward, clad in an elaborate white and blue long coat with leather vest and all, who made his way down to where he suspected a picnic would be, and ah, there it was.

"Trust this old lady to reach her claws out when it's least convenient," he said. "Jesus."

Hey, since this was her second time, Amaya figured she could officially feel comfortable calling herself a teacher and not just marking the whole thing up as a fluke. She felt weirdly proud of it, to the point where she'd gone and volunteered herself up to help out with a new teacher, too. Kind of the blind leading the blind, but they'd eventually find a path.

Probably.

She checked the piece of paper in her hand again for the name, then considered who she didn't know among the gathering staff might look like an Edward Kenway.

But the number of faces it could be, based merely on the fact that she didn't recognize a lot of these faces, just proved to her she probably should go out and be social a bit more...

In his entire six years of life, Liam had known all of one teenager. And maybe a few Volunteers who were barely out of their teens. That was about it, really. So he was feeling a little dubious about his status as a 'good role model', but here all the same.
