Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

The weather had turned out absolutely lovely for today's picnic, through no interference of dark magic (as far as anyone knew). The bonfire had been scrapped for the season, replaced with more blue and gold chairs and tables for people to sit at. The usual buffet was out, and this time there were plates and to-go containers, because really, no one should have to resort to the unsanitary measure of pocket food in the 21st century.

Happy picnic day, everyone!

"Am I, now?" Edward asked, stopping to look, but only over his shoulder. "I would doubt that."

He didn't recognize her at all.

"Well," said Amaya, catching up, tilting her head to try to confirm the nametag without seeming to awkward about it, "you go by the name Edward Kenway?"

He looked like an Edward. Then again, so did the old man who ran Daventry. Lots of people named Edward, so she figured lots of people looked like an Edward, too.

"Captain Edward Kenway," Edward agreed, half-turning now, and speaking it like...

... well, like he'd just earned that bloody title and he was going to use it.

Ahh, well, that explained why Amaya was feeling that she liked the cut of this man's jib, especially since it was pretty likely he was the kind of Captain she was used to instead of one of these far-flung space captains she seemed to be running into instead.

She grinned, taking satisfaction in her hunch being right. "Then, yup, you're the man I'm looking for, unless there's another Edward Kenway running around here, too. I'm Amaya. Amaya Blackstone. I'm supposed to be your Teaching Buddy, show you the ropes around here, so to speak."

Which...mostly would involve her pretending she knew what she was talking about, but, hey. She made a good effort.

"My teaching buddy?" Edward asked, mild confusion sneaking into his tone. "The island expects me to become a teacher, then?"

He'd almost forgotten how this place worked.

"Seems so," Amaya nodded. "Unless, like I said, there's another Edward Kenway runnin' around here somewhere."

There was a faint pause, getting a good look at him. "Something tells me maybe you didn't know?"

"Haven't been here in years," Edward said lightly. "Not since I was a student. Came here by complete accident, I fear."

"Well," said Amaya after a moment of piecing that together, "welcome back, then, I reckon. Might want to go talk to someone in administration about it; someone clearly knew you were coming, or else I wouldn't have been given this assignment. You don't think there's any wizards up there, do you?"

Hey, even a broken clock was right twice a day. One of these times, she'd hit on something and a wizard would be behind whatever was going on.
