Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

The weather had turned out absolutely lovely for today's picnic, through no interference of dark magic (as far as anyone knew). The bonfire had been scrapped for the season, replaced with more blue and gold chairs and tables for people to sit at. The usual buffet was out, and this time there were plates and to-go containers, because really, no one should have to resort to the unsanitary measure of pocket food in the 21st century.

Happy picnic day, everyone!

While Sidon's approach might not have been quite as...bold as, say, some of the others, he did take the task of locating his newest sibling to heart by approaching each of the new faces with a bit of a bow, smoothed out the nametag that seemed to be having difficulty adhering to his skin, and looked down (and down) to ask, "Pardon me, but you wouldn't happen to go by the name Manfred Bernardo, would you?"

Thankfully, there weren't many of them, so the going should be quick and he shouldn't have to bother too many people in his asking around.

After a moment of speechlessness, Manfred said, "Yeah, that's...that's me."

"Wonderful!" Sidon beamed brightly, all the sharpest of his teeth gleaming. "Then I must extend to you the warmest of welcomes to this fair island and its stupendous school! What a sheer pleasure it is to meet you, Manfred Bernardo, on this lovely day! I am Sidon," and here, of course, with a great surge of joy at getting to do it again, hopefully the first of many more times throughout the day, he pumped his fist in front of him and grinned, "the Zora Prince! And also your Big Sibling here at Fandom High. I have been blessed with the auspicious task of introducing you to the island and getting you acclimated with its various quirks and charms. Please do not hesitate to ask me any questions you may have, and allow me to start by asking one of my own: I trust you have had a safe journey here?"

Well, at least he didn't seem to intend to use those teeth on Manfred. And Manfred didn't think he'd ever met anyone so enthusiastic, so...still processing, over here.

He was probably staring. Right, he should say something. "Right, uh, yeah, it was...fine. It was fine. The bus didn't blow up." Always a plus. "So you're, uh." Ask something not rude, Manfred. "You're a prince?"

Eh. He was used to it. After Norman and Manfred, Sidon would just assume that all little siblings were merely stunned by the experience of coming here.

"That is correct!" he beamed at his new little sibling's incredible astuteness. "I am the Prince of the Zora, which is a people of my homeland, which is called Hyrule, which is not a part of this world, I have come to discover. Many of the students here are from worlds other than this one, if you would believe such a thing! Which world do you come from, Manfred Bernardo?"

One day, he's learn that last names were a thing and didn't need to be said every time he met someone new.

"As far as I know it's...this one, but I'm prepared to turn out to be wrong about that at any time at this point," Manfred said. "As long as we're still in Maryland I'm sticking with it, though."

Manfred wondered vaguely if being a prince meant Sidon was rich, then mentally slapped himself. You didn't con family, even fake school-assigned family.

"We are in Maryland, yes! Very good! Your knowledge is exceptional so far!"

Out of anyone else's mouth, it probably would have sounded sarcastic, but out of Sidon, it was just so gosh darn sincere and wholesome.

"That is excellent that you are from this world!" he continued. "I am still learning so much about it, so perhaps you can teach me just as much as I could teach you, if not quite considerably more! My last little sibling was from this world, as well, a place called Massachusetts, if I recall correctly, which is not too far from here, by my understanding. Have you heard of it?"

"Yes," Manfred said. "Yes, I have heard of Massachusetts." Boy, this conversation was a whole other experience. "I even went there once. Didn't like it much." Too many ghosts in Boston.

And, interestingly, Sidon's other little sibling would likely be inclined to agree.

Sidon, meanwhile, just seemed a little surprised at any negative regard for anything. "No?" he asked. "Why not, if I may ask? And I certainly do hope you like it better here than Massachusetts. Where are you from? Not that I'm likely to have heard of it, but it would be very good to know, especially if you might recommend going there one day. I have so much of this world to experience, after all! Besides the island here, I've really only been to the Alps and China!"

"I'm from...all over, really. I was born in Tennessee," he offered. "You probably don't know where that is." He did not answer the question of why he hadn't liked Massachusetts.

"Once again, Manfred Bernardo, you are quite correct!" Sidon informed him brightly. "I have never heard of such a place, but I suppose that makes us even, though I will be proven most astonished and pleasantly wrong if you have, in fact, heard of Hyrule."
