Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

When the planning for the new semester had started, no one had really noticed that the welcome picnic would coincide with Cinco de Mayo. When the food arrived and all of it, including the desserts, had somehow ended up as a variety of Mexican food, well, it was a little too late to change anything.

Hopefully, the wandering mariachi band that had shown up wouldn't throw anyone either. It was a festive day of new arrivals, after all.

The blue and gold tables and chairs had been set out, along with nametags and the lists of Big and Little Siblings, and rooms and roommates for the new students. Assuming the shuttle arrived with all of the students and teachers in one piece, everything was set for the picnic to begin!

[OCD is up, have at it! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here and here, in an effort to keep browsers from breaking for as long as possible. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Well, Terry was starting off his time at a new school exhausted, slightly mortified that it took him five seconds to introduce himself as a loudmouth to the Dean of Students, and annoyed that he seemed to be past the point where any more caffeine was going to help him out.

But hey, at least he had a new sibling. Hopefully this Kate girl was better than his real brother. Of course, she'd probably have to be, since she probably wasn't 10.

Not ten. Also sadly, not entirely on time, largely because she hadn't even considered they might entrust her with a new kid. They should've really known better.

But not important, she was here now, eying her piece of paper before offering out a "If you're a Terry McGinnis, step forward." Not everyone wanted to go for the nametags, and she wasn't checking everyone to figure out if he was or wasn't the rebellious sort.

Anna didn't bother with shoes or accessories today, just her usual white dress, but she did stick her name tag to it before she started wandering through the crowd on silent feet, checking name tags for an 'Atton Rand.'

Name tags? Seriously?

Atton screwed around with his for a couple minutes. In the interest of keeping a low profile, though, he eventually pasted it on his chest (even if the tag had now gained a smiley face) and went looking for... someone called Anna.

Ah. There.

"I was going to ask you if you were Anna Korlov," he drawled, "But then I remembered I could read."

Sia was having quite the day so far, and she could only imagine what else she might find here. But there were still more people to meet, and Sia knew how to behave in this sort of situation even if she was feeling incredibly wary, and so she could get through this.

She would not wear a name tag, though. She would hold it instead if this Britta person needed it.

Thankfully (well, depending on how you looked at it), Britta intended to make it easy for her new little sibling, eager as she was to be able to get to what she figured was an impressionable young mind ripe to be swayed toward the enlightenment of the world, before they indoctrination of youth had a chance to weasel its way into her brain first.

You see, Britta made a sign. It was big and bold, black letters on white poster board on a long stick, so she lofted it with the skill and precision of a person used to a lot of protests and sign holding.

It said: WELCOME, MARASAIH!

Yes, Britta had spelled it wrong.

Yeah, okay. Sparkle totally knew what this was. The school babysitter program, right? To keep him out of trouble?

He rolled his eyes as he stuck on his nametag, even if it wasn't all that bad. It just left this sticky crap on his shirts, and he hated that.

... Right. Someone named Tony. Who the hell looked like a Tony around here, anyhow? All the guys and at least half of the girls. Great.

Tony was keeping his eyes peeled for a little sibling named 'Sparkle'. Which, to be honest, made him wonder if maybe she was a dancer at one of the bars that he most certainly did not go to with his friends.

Not at all.

Imagine his disappointment to find it was a guy. Buck up, Tony! Buck up. "Sparkle? I'm Tony."

Petra--despite her darling three-inch wedges--climbed up onto one of the picnic benches, smoothed down the skirt of her sundress, and cupped her hands around her mouth to call (with her rather impressive projection) "Fawn Farrell? I'm looking for a Fawn Farrell!"

When the whole situation you were thrust into made you want to have the earth just open up from under your feet and swallow you whole, the last things you wanted was someone standing on a picnic bench shouting your name. Eyes wide, face red with mortification, Fawn stared at the other girl on the bench and seriously contemplated just ignoring it. But then the other girl would probably continue to call out her name, and that wouldn't help much.

So she approached the bench, her head ducked at first, but she lifted it slightly when she pushed her hair back behind her ears. "Um. I'm Fawn Farrell."

Funnily enough, Karolina had her nametag on and was scanning the crowd for a Lex. It was only natural that the two should meet!

"Lex, right?" she checked as she approached, even though she'd just read the name on is tag. It just seemed polite. "Hi. I'm Karolina, your, uh... sister?"

Kenzi had a box of cookies, and a glittery sign that said "George Drayton, your attention please."

Her name-tag said "Quinn Fabray."

Ulrik had a dozen siblings already, so... what was one more, really? He looked around to see if he could spot a 'Stacey' anywhere, after affixing a name tag to his shirt that read 'Ulrik Oldenburg'. He didn't generally use a surname, but he figured he ought to follow American custom since he was here and all.

Thomasina spared a moment for the passing thought, "but I already have an older brother," before her brain caught up and she remembered the brochure mentioning a program to acclimate new students to the school. Which seemed perfectly reasonable, in fact.

She affixed the sticker with her name to the front of her blouse and looked around for this 'Luke' person.

Thelma realized rather quickly on the bus ride that she was going to have to put in some effort to actually communicate with the majority of the student body.

And so, she now had a notebook and a pen. And she'd slapped a 'Hello my Name is Thelma, I'm a Ghost' sticker on the front.

It was better than hanging a chalkboard around her neck. But for now, she was going to look about for a 'Richie Ryan'.

Stephanie was pretty excited about the prospect of doing the big sibling thing.

Look out, world, Stephanie Brown here to corrupt young minds and -- wait, who said anything about corrupting? La la la, I am totally helpful.

Her name was scrawled boldly in purple ink on her nametag, and she was keeping an eye out for someone who looked like a 'Bucky.'

Simon (with an extremely neat nametag on, naturally) was looking for someone whose name he was afraid of pronouncing for fear of getting it wrong.

So, he was holding up a sign that said 'Sholeh Zeela a Zhahar' in big, neat letters.

Tinny thought it was kind of weird she was assigned a big sibling for this thing (http://brat-detective.livejournal.com/1565.html?thread=797#t797), but she went with it. She found her name tag first, then looked around for someone named Mercy. Well, that name was pleasant, at least. Hopefully the girl was, too.

This was nothing like school mixers at any of Minako's previous schools; in Japan or England! No one was in uniform! Or formal dress!

She tightened the big red bow in her hair and grinned down at Artemis. "Let's do this!"

"GOMENASI!!!" she yelled cheerfully, as Artemis did his best not to die of embarassment. "I'm looking for a Billy Kaplan!"
