fandomhigh | Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

When the planning for the new semester had started, no one had really noticed that the welcome picnic would coincide with Cinco de Mayo. When the food arrived and all of it, including the desserts, had somehow ended up as a variety of Mexican food, well, it was a little too late to change anything.

Hopefully, the wandering mariachi band that had shown up wouldn't throw anyone either. It was a festive day of new arrivals, after all.

The blue and gold tables and chairs had been set out, along with nametags and the lists of Big and Little Siblings, and rooms and roommates for the new students. Assuming the shuttle arrived with all of the students and teachers in one piece, everything was set for the picnic to begin!

[OCD is up, have at it! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here and here, in an effort to keep browsers from breaking for as long as possible. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Yeah. Yeah, Sparkle kind of had to ask it again.

"... Seriously?"

WELL...

"Welcome to Fandom?"

"I give it to the end of the week before I steal a boat and try to row back to Canada," Sparkle decided, shooting Tony a grin. "Maybe I should start gathering provisions. Smokes. Beer. Don't suppose you know anybody over the drinking age here who'll pick up a case for an almost-sixteen-year-old, huh?"

"Well, one of the bars in town serves beer to anyone," Tony offered. "I couldn't really say anything about cigarettes."

"... Wait, you mean to tell me that there's seriously a place on this rock that doesn't card?"

He wouldn't even have to break out his fakes at this rate!

"Nice, right?"

"Maybe worth sticking around for. What else does this place have?"

"The coffee shop is amazing and the pizza place delivers at weird hours." Priorities: Tony had them.

Yeah, see, this was actually kind of working, if Tony's aim was to get Sparkle to not want to take off for the causeway at a run!

"... How weird?"

"I got one at 3 AM once." BECAUSE YOU TIPPED WITH TWENTIES, TONY.

SPARKLE COULDN'T AFFORD TO PAY IN TWENTIES. HE WAS NOT GETTING PIZZA AT THREE.

"... Not bad. Not bad. So, you can just... hit up the bar, stumble home, get a pizza delivered, and have cold slices left over for the hangover the next day? Almost sounds like you've got it made here, honestly."

It sounded good. A little... too good.

SORRY, SPARKLE. BE RICH LIKE TONY.

"Well, we are still at school," Tony pointed out.

"School as taught by ponies?"

Somehow, that didn't strike Sparkle as being terribly academic.

"We also have a teacher who I remember from fighting in World War II where I'm from, but not everywhere else."

Sparkle actually needed to take a second in order to parse that statement into logic that made sense to people who weren't used to alternate realities and timelines, yeah.

"... So... there's more than one of this guy?"

"And more than one of me," Tony added. "Apparently some version of me who was older owned a place in town for a while."

"And not just some old guy with the same name?"

Because Sparkle could totally see how people would make the mistake of thinking that some dude had dropped a few years and had magically come back as a student here, sure.

Well...

"There were a lot of similarities..."

"Oh, yeah?"

See Sparks. See Sparks raise an eyebrow. Raise that eyebrow, Sparks!

"He... also owned a company named Stark International." Kind of. "And looked a lot like how my dad did."

"And you don't have any, like, uncles or older cousins or anything with... shares in the... company you own?"

Sparkle's dubious look was growing a little more dubious, now. Nobody had said anything about going to school with kids that owned businesses.

"I have a distant cousin, but no other living relatives." AWKWARD. "And I own the controlling shares when I... turn 18."

... Huh. Rich kid, no family. Sparkle was torn between commiseration and a sort of instinctive distaste all rolled into one. He pursed his lips, and then wrinkled his nose, and then finally settled on a sort of vaguely amused look that didn't say much of anything at all.

"So, what you're saying here is that this place is weird."

Yes, Sparkle. That had been firmly established, now.

"A little bit!" A beat. "But I'll be around if you need any help. Trust me, I would have had, like, a nervous break down without people to help me out."

"Eh. I'm used to moving around from weird place to weird place. This can't be any worse than some of the stuff I've seen, you know."

Toronto. Pretty weird city, that Toronto. Or maybe it was just human nature that was weird.

Or just Sparkle.
