Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

When the planning for the new semester had started, no one had really noticed that the welcome picnic would coincide with Cinco de Mayo. When the food arrived and all of it, including the desserts, had somehow ended up as a variety of Mexican food, well, it was a little too late to change anything.

Hopefully, the wandering mariachi band that had shown up wouldn't throw anyone either. It was a festive day of new arrivals, after all.

The blue and gold tables and chairs had been set out, along with nametags and the lists of Big and Little Siblings, and rooms and roommates for the new students. Assuming the shuttle arrived with all of the students and teachers in one piece, everything was set for the picnic to begin!

[OCD is up, have at it! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here and here, in an effort to keep browsers from breaking for as long as possible. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Well, Terry was starting off his time at a new school exhausted, slightly mortified that it took him five seconds to introduce himself as a loudmouth to the Dean of Students, and annoyed that he seemed to be past the point where any more caffeine was going to help him out.

But hey, at least he had a new sibling. Hopefully this Kate girl was better than his real brother. Of course, she'd probably have to be, since she probably wasn't 10.

Not ten. Also sadly, not entirely on time, largely because she hadn't even considered they might entrust her with a new kid. They should've really known better.

But not important, she was here now, eying her piece of paper before offering out a "If you're a Terry McGinnis, step forward." Not everyone wanted to go for the nametags, and she wasn't checking everyone to figure out if he was or wasn't the rebellious sort.

For the record, Terry wasn't rebelling against nametags today. He probably would have if he knew his big sib was going to cheat like that, though.

"Hey, I'm Terry," he said, stepping forward. "Are you Kate, or are you just shouting names at random?"

"... I should've done that." That would've been a little more original. "But no, I'm Kate. I'm your new sibling, here to make sure you survive the semester."

She was kidding. Mostly.

"Is that what a big sibling does?" Terry asked. "I owe my kid brother an apology. I mostly just tease him."

"It probably depends on the sib." Caroline hadn't taken the same tack with her, after all. It possibly didn't help that Kate wasn't exactly enamored with the idea of vampire fake sibling.

"Mine had a slightly different tactic. It involved a lot of glitter..."

"I'm glad you managed to show some restraint there," Terry said, giving a little sigh of relief. "If you'd broken out the glitter, I probably wouldn't have answered."

"I get enough of that around here without adding any extra myself," Kate assured him. "Student Council plaster the place in it at every opportunity." She still didn't understand the allure.

"Besides, I didn't actually know I was getting a person until this morning. You get the unprepared. Sorry about that." Really sorry, Terry. "But basically, I think I'm here to answer any questions you might have. How much do you know already?"

"I've had a pretty basic rundown. Other worlds, people changing genders, the occasional end of all reality... You know, basic high school stuff," Terry said as casually as possible. He wanted to make sure that stuff wasn't just a weird story.

"Basic run down? That pretty much sums this place up in a sentence." Who needed a big sib? "You seem very calm about all that."

"That's because I cheated and got advance warning," Terry said. "My boss is an alumnus. He told me about that stuff yesterday so I got all my freaking out done then."

"Your boss is an alum." Okay, that explained a lot. "I'm feeling very much surplus to requirements here," she joked. "You don't want to fake freak out for me, so I feel like I'm actually introducing you to new and crazy things?"

She would not mind if he said no.

"Don't worry. Mr Wayne didn't tell me much more than that I already mentioned, so I'm sure you'll find a few nuggets of information that can get me to freak out for real," Terry said.
