Wednesday: What was the school board thinking giving Jamie Madrox a teaching position?

Instead of going to a classroom today, the students were directed to the third floor of the dorms where they would find the hallway teeming with Jamie-Dupes wearing labcoats and goggles. Each one of them had a clipboard, calipers, measuring tape, litmus strips, cotton swabs and all sorts of scientific goodies that they seemed to be using on all of the doorknobs on the third floor.

"Ladies and gentlemen," Jamie said stepping forward and pulling down his goggles. "Today we leave our childhood behind and step into the future. Into the grand thing we know as... SCIENCE!"

If Reed Richards knew what was going to happen next, there would be a lot of weeping for the future.

"It has long been hypothesized that the doors in the dorms have curious properties."

Um. No. They really haven't.

"In fact one might say the doorknobs of these doors... taste like bacon."

Yep. Reed Richards. Big honking tears.

"Your job is to lick these doorknobs and see if they taste like bacon. FOR SCIENCE!"

Don't expect to get a Nobel prize for this one Jamie.

...right. Sam hadn't really expected to be licking doorknobs for class. He was really starting to wonder if there was something off in Professor Madrox's head because this was just weird.

And considering he had no idea what people put on their doorknobs, he was hesitant.

There was absolutely no doubt in Warren's mind that Professor Madrox was insane.

None.

But at least there weren't duplicates of himself running around and being crazy at people today.

Dave was very concerned when they ended up on his floor of the dorms. He was worried that his floor would be somehow destroyed.

After Jamie explained what they would be doing, Dave almost would have rathered that his floor would have been destroyed.

Seifer knew what insanity looked and sounded like. And while Madrox didn't show any obvious signs of the 'take over the world and destroy it all' sort, he was definitely nuts. Crazy. Cuckoo. Wacko.

Yep. He had to sign up for Crazy Class.

Squall was a cynic, and trained to evaluate situations tactically. Therefore, the question that immediately came to his mind was: had Professor Madrox gone around rubbing bacon grease on doorknobs before class?

Sam was staring at the line of doorknobs and then he was staring back at the teacher. He honestly didn't know if he was going to be able to lick doorknobs. He was ninety nine percent positive that they didn't taste like bacon and he didn't need to lick them to make that decision.

Doorknobs probably tasted like...metal.

On the plus side, at least Warren lived on this floor. As of a couple of weeks ago, granted, but at least it meant that he could contemplate licking his own doorknob, instead of someone else's.

Contemplate being the key word, here.

Dave stood outside his own door and stared at the doorknob, trying to figure out how clean it was. He had almost convinced himself that it would probably be fine until he remembered that Topher was a prostitute over the weekend.

Annie didn't think she could do this. If she got sick and died, that would really throw off her campaign, for one. For two... she lived on this floor. In fact, she was standing in front of her own door.

Did she really want to know what her doorknob tasted like?

And worse, what happened if someone opened the door to her licking their doorknob? She'd left the Crazy Annie thing behind at her last school, thank you very much.

Claudia blinked, and looked at her load of supplies for the day, which included:

• Five pounds of maple bacon
• Two dozen Franciscan monastic robes, still wrapped in their "Spooky Friar!" Halloween costume plastic
• Two Halloween sized bags of Tootsie roll pops
• A copy of "He's just not that into you" autographed by the video store clerk
• And a five gallon bucket of melted butter with "blob with horns" written on the side

"You mean we're actually using some of this today?"
