Instead of going to a classroom today, the students were directed to the third floor of the dorms where they would find the hallway teeming with Jamie-Dupes wearing labcoats and goggles. Each one of them had a clipboard, calipers, measuring tape, litmus strips, cotton swabs and all sorts of scientific goodies that they seemed to be using on all of the doorknobs on the third floor.

"Ladies and gentlemen," Jamie said stepping forward and pulling down his goggles. "Today we leave our childhood behind and step into the future. Into the grand thing we know as... SCIENCE!"

If Reed Richards knew what was going to happen next, there would be a lot of weeping for the future.

"It has long been hypothesized that the doors in the dorms have curious properties."

Um. No. They really haven't.

"In fact one might say the doorknobs of these doors... taste like bacon."

Yep. Reed Richards. Big honking tears.

"Your job is to lick these doorknobs and see if they taste like bacon. FOR SCIENCE!"

Don't expect to get a Nobel prize for this one Jamie.

"Getting a lecture from Sid is not getting in trouble. Getting in trouble is dumping loud, annoying short people from the catwalk into the fountain and then spending three days in solitary."

Not that it had ever happened. Nope, not to Seifer.

"Cadets?!" Squall growled. "Who couldn't defend themselves against one of Garden's best fighters? I would call that a fair punishment."

"Hey, better me and near a fully stocked infirmary, than out in the field with just two members of their team and basics," he countered. Seifer figured he did a hell of a lot better job preparing some cadets than the damn instructors did.

"...So you figured you were doing them a favor by mocking them?"

Squall sighed, and shrugged. "You know, I'd probably have more respect for you if you acknowledged that you were just being mean because it amused you. You may have been persecuted by some teachers at Garden, but everything you got from Cid you deserved."

"Well, with Dincht, yeah. Because it was just fun to watch him when he got pissed off. He was more of a challenge to spar with too, because he didn't hold back." At least he was admitting that much, right?

"The others, come on. I never did anything that would really hurt them."

"You were reckless and immature, and a bad role model," Squall countered.

"Which is what you were for, to make up for my ...badness?" That sounded wrong to him, but he was going to use it.

"I wasn't for anything," Squall insisted. "I was just there."

"You were the golden boy..." Seifer paused, and then grinned. "Well, emo boy, anyway."

"You were the only one who thought I was the 'golden boy'," Squall insisted.

Seifer held up his hand and starting ticking off names on his fingers. "Cid, Quistis, Zell, that chick in the cafeteria, most of the staff... Face it, Squall. You were the golden boy, I was the bad guy. It was destiny."

Really? All of those people thought he was special?

"...Whatever. You just don't like taking responsibility for the things you do wrong."

"Like I said, I'm the bad guy," he pointed out. Although, that had changed recently. He'd even apologized to Squall and meant it.

"People aren't 'good' or 'bad'," Squall insisted. "Just their actions and choices. You don't have to be anything you don't want to be."

"...you took a psych class, didn't you?"

"...so?"

Squall had always indulged in philosophical overthinking. He just didn't usually do it out loud, is all.

"So."

Yeah, Seifer was going to counter with that.
