Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

So this week had been... less than great overall, but everyone in town was okay again (as okay as they ever were, at least) and now there were new people to welcome to the island! Thankfully, the weather was warm and sunny, perfect for anyone who wanted to take part in some shirtless shenanigans, and the front lawn of the school was all set up for yet another tasty picnic. There were tables of blank name tags, lists of information, and enough food to probably feed two Fandoms. Time to be welcoming!

[OCD is up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Norman was having a not-great week, but he was going to put on a pleasant enough front for at least long enough to find and greet his new little sibling. Look, he'd even put on a nametag, and had resisted the urge to scribble a tiny 'ab' before his name.

It was a nice day, right? And he wasn't going to lead in with 'there were vampires three days ago,' which he figured was probably a promising start as he looked around for someone who might be a 'Janet.'

Vette really hadn't had much in the way of time to prepare, like, a welcome packet or anything. Not that she would have, necessarily. She figured just by virtue of existing, she was kind of a great indication about what people here were going to have to get used to.

But then, how much 'getting used to' was a person with a name like Delirium going to have to do, right?

Well, she supposed she'd find out.

Owen had woken up on the edge of town, and just gone... wandering where the sound was coming from, the place that felt busy. He stood there now, looking mildly ill at ease and like he was trying to hide it; he put his hands on his hips demonstratively and looked around. "Well," he said, "Looks like I'm... even further from Antium than usual."

Wayne, who'd found a nametag and put it on because that seemed to be the thing to do, was mostly just standing to the side a bit, arms folding in front of him, squinting at the general proceedings as he sort of tried to parse out what all the pageantry was for. Nothing like a good social picnic to sort of branch out and get friendly with people, sure, but he had sort of just gotten here, and he was going to just sort of feel the room (so to speak) a little bit first.

Also occasionally gawking up at the castle. And taking pictures of it to send back to the other kids. Because castle.

Sabine found she actually sort of liked doing the big sibling thing, and this time she'd come slightly more prepared, with a sign she'd made on a sheet of paper that read "SHURI" in graffiti-style lettering with a very colorful background.

Hopefully it'd cut down on time spent staring at people's chests and taking guesses at who people were.

Plus she'd gotten bored last night.

And she had a lot of other feelings that she wasn't really dealing with right now so, honestly, a sibling was the perfect distraction.

So why would she even bother with name tags?

Wayne was just the sort of person who would be perfectly content not knowing who he'd be rooming with until he walked into that said room, but he figured he should know what room that was at the very least, and, really, if a list was posted, one couldn't help being a bit curious.

So he looked.

His phone beeped, and he opened it up to see a text message from Freddy. remember the big welcome speech i gave you? you should do something like that. the castle should really help sell the meta for game of thrones part.

He snickered. He wouldn't actually do that, especially since he was gathering that there was no guarantee this Owen guy would have even heard of that show, but it was an entertaining thought anyway.

... And also because he was curious about the newcomers to the island, admittedly, and would like to help anyone who seemed particularly lost in any way he could.

But mostly because he looked busy this way.

Amaya was honestly half-surprised the Warden had let her out for this. It probably helped, she was sure, that the Warden herself would be there, probably keeping an eye on her like a hawk, but she was really looking forward to just getting out, getting some fresh air, and maybe acting a bit like everything was normal again, even if she certainly looked a bit rough from her adventure as a starving, feral vampire for the better part of the week.

A bit bruised, a bit peaked, not exactly the hearty and hale Amaya Blackstone people might be used to seeing, but she still had that cheerful determination that she'd always had. If anything, she did have someone assigned to her as their teaching buddy again this time around, and that had to be a job she could at least do right now, so she was going to do the heck out of it.

'The Warden' would like to argue that she wasn't here just to keep an eye on Blackstone. She would like to point out that she was here because she was expected to be here. If Rosa just so happened to be making sure she was fine after the whole vampire ordeal while they were at it, well, then, that was just being efficient. She figured Blackstone would appreciate that kind of efficiency.

Plus, it had been a rough week, and there was always going to be at least one or two gawking newbies to amuse the crap out of her. Good times.

Ender and Ben's return to Fandom had been a quiet affair. They'd just... landed, found themselves a hotel within public transportation distance, and prepared themselves for the picnic.

Now Ender was there, holding a four year old girl's hand as she tugged him along through the picnic, poking at things left and right and asking questions.

Okay, so the first time Summer did this whole 'standing around being a teacher' thing at the picnic was super weird, and she'd be lying if she said it still wasn't a little weird, but now that she had her teacher training wheels off, it felt a bit more official and real and like she wasn't just masquerading in the wrong spot. It probably helped that the crowd of students she'd been students with was thinning a little and that made it a little less weird. Also, it made it more important to seem like a responsible adult and teacher-like person to get that established right off the bat with the newbs.

Or something like that. Whatever. She was here! Being a teacher! Maybe she'd eventually get used to that idea. Maybe.

Karolina was definitely Team Responsible! She also still had a few extra welcome packets, in case anyone who maybe hadn't gotten one on the bus wanted one, or if anyone else wanted a refresher.

It wasn't Aeryn's first picnic by a long shot, but it had been a very long time since her last. She didn't expect too many familiar faces aside from those she already knew about so she wasn't looking for those, but it was interesting to see how things had changed.

Jack couldn't remotely be called responsible, but here she was anyway, hanging out somewhere vaguely near Kanan so she could occasionally toss acorns at him. It gave her something to do and possibly made her look less threatening, in case any of the students wanted to come over and chat.

She was clearly being a pest and enjoying every second of it, if the tiny catlike smile on her face was any indication.
