Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

So this week had been... less than great overall, but everyone in town was okay again (as okay as they ever were, at least) and now there were new people to welcome to the island! Thankfully, the weather was warm and sunny, perfect for anyone who wanted to take part in some shirtless shenanigans, and the front lawn of the school was all set up for yet another tasty picnic. There were tables of blank name tags, lists of information, and enough food to probably feed two Fandoms. Time to be welcoming!

[OCD is up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

"It's petty straightforward," Norman offered. "If you need anything or have any questions about this place, that's what I'm here for."

He paused, then added, "This place usually warrants at least a few questions."

"Like what days they serve the good food in the cafeteria, or there's not really a pass that takes you to the roof?" Janet assumed, like she had any idea.

"I mean... the cafeteria has cafeteria food all the time, but if you ever order delivery while you're sitting in a common room in the dorms, brace yourself for... way too much. It's almost a given that it'll happen."

Unless you ordered too much, and then they might forget the napkins, he supposed.

"And any of the students have roof access in the dorms, but I've never really tried the same in the school." He glanced at said school for a moment. "But I bet the view would be cool up there."

"It has to be, right? The school is a castle," Janet said, which was really the coolest thing she could think of right now.

"The school is totally a castle," Norman agreed, nodding a tiny bit. "And... it's probably nothing like you're expecting, really."

"What, like are there actually suits of armor in there, or something?" said the poor new girl who just had no clue.

Norman, stop dancing around it.

"This place is kind of weird," he hedged. "Not, like, 'they have Taco Tuesday on Wednesdays,' weird. Actual weird-weird. Like, some of the teachers are superheroes weird."

A pause.

"If that's weird where you're from."

Janet paused, and by her headtilt he should probably have his answer to that last part.

"By 'superheroes' do you mean they're just really good at their jobs?"

The alternative was... it was something.

Norman made a face.

It was the face of a guy who knew exactly how crazy he sounded.

"... If their job is saving the world...?"

"Oh, no, nothing can save the world from that."

"Okay. Because I'm sure if the world actually needed saving, aside from like, from climate change, I think I would have heard about it by now," she stated.

"Fair enough," Norman allowed. And then smiled wryly. "I guess the whole 'other worlds' thing is going to sound even more crazy, then, huh?"

Norman scrubbed a hand through his hair. It bounced back into shape the moment he moved his hand away, and he sighed.

And then he raised a hand and pointed a finger into the space in front of him, and in a faintly glowing green light, backwards, so it read properly to Janet, he just wrote, Hi.

Thanks for that trick, Bob.

"I swear, I'm not crazy," he added. "You've just signed up for a really weird school."

She'd seen the Disney Channel and understood the effect but she also knew those actors were faking making those ears.

"A magical glowing light suspended in midair," Norman supplied. "I'd say I take requests, but I'm really a lousy artist."

He swept a hand through the 'hi,' and the light dissipated and faded away.

Norman just raised his eyebrows and smiled wryly.

"Have you got any theories?"

"I've suffered a stroke," Janet replied.

"Just wait until your first class in the Danger Shop," Norman offered. And paused. "Or until you meet Beaker."

"There's a classroom called The Danger Shop?"

"It's not actually dangerous," Norman said quickly. "It's more like an interactive virtual reality setup. Most teachers use it for things like simulating cars or weird animals or kitchens..."

"Um," Norman replied. Because he really hadn't thought that far ahead, admittedly. "I guess... maybe it's called that because it can simulate some things that are</em. pretty intense, even though the safeties in place mean nobody gets hurt?"
