Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

When the planning for the new semester had started, no one had really noticed that the welcome picnic would coincide with Cinco de Mayo. When the food arrived and all of it, including the desserts, had somehow ended up as a variety of Mexican food, well, it was a little too late to change anything.

Hopefully, the wandering mariachi band that had shown up wouldn't throw anyone either. It was a festive day of new arrivals, after all.

The blue and gold tables and chairs had been set out, along with nametags and the lists of Big and Little Siblings, and rooms and roommates for the new students. Assuming the shuttle arrived with all of the students and teachers in one piece, everything was set for the picnic to begin!

[OCD is up, have at it! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here and here, in an effort to keep browsers from breaking for as long as possible. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Like, they actually went "She looks like someone who should be helping out new teachers." Or at least they didn't half that idea right there when they realized who they were talking about.

Jaye found this hilarious.

Oh, and she was also looking to see what kind of group was around now. And whether there were any more talking animals.

Sure, Deadpool was looking for a teaching buddy. But he was also keeping an eye out for anyone from back home.

Steve had a teaching buddy, who he was of course looking out for, but aside from his teaching buddy he was looking for anyone looking particularly lost. Well, that or 'familiar.' You never knew around here.

There were certain faces you were going to go to in a crowd, if you were a superhero geek.

Steve had one of those faces. Even if some of his teammates had a grudge against him, Victor had still kept a poster of him in his bedroom for years.

"Hi," he said, wandering over, and then got flustered as to what exactly to say. "I'm Victor Mancha. You ... met my friends? Unless you just look like Captain America, in which case I sound insane and I'm sorry to bother you."

After half a year living on the island and several centuries dealing with Fae, either as their king or a simple barkeep, Trick was fairly confident that he could handle most of what the school or the students threw at him. At the same time, he didn't get to be his age or experience without knowing that having friends--or, at least, allies--that you could count on to help you out at need were worth their weight in gold.

And that assuming you knew everything about a place was the first step in making a giant mistake. One that could potentially even kill you.

And so he was making his way over to a man he vaguely recognized from the town and offering his best smile. "Trick Maccorieghan, pleased to meet you."

After somehow managing to survive the death trap that had been the shuttle and it's incompetent driver, Holmes was continuing his hobo impression going to keep to the side in order to observe.

The future was very musical, it would seem.

It didn't take William very long to pick out the teacher who was dressed- well. Closer to his own style than the majority of Fandom's residents. If somewhat more sloppily.

In any case, that observation had him wandering over to the teacher in question and putting forth an inquiry: "What year is it, where you're from?"

Pinkie was prancing her way through the welcome picnic, a name tag stuck prominently on her chest.

It had three balloons on it, and a scribble that KIND of looked like it might start with a cursive P. She still wasn't super good at writing in English.

"Sherlock Hooooooooooolmes," she sang. "Where aaaaaaaaaare you?"

Sitting there on the ground with a big tag on it that said "TYRION: TURN THE CRANK" was what appeared to be a Jack-in-the-box.

A possibly completely innocent Jack-in-the-box.

This was the first time Ender was on this side of the picnic. He had no teaching buddy, and he didn't really need one - he'd been at this school long enough to know how things worked.

But he would be standing over here with the teachers, just in case someone needed him.

Oh god, really, who let Kennedy teach? Seriously? Because she looked way too pleased about being back here and hanging out with the faculty.

...which might change, should she run into any of her friends who were still students, but for now? Someone looked really smug.

Someone was also checking her phone and rolling her eyes every so often, because now that Vi and Rona had found out what she was up to, they weren't going to stop giving her a hard time about it.

Except the part where she was a teacher now, and gleefully excited about that, and cheerily mingling with her drink looking for people she knew, people she didn't and everyone in between.

Tyrion was on his third semester, and -- since Daenerys was gone for the summer -- seemed to be the sole representative of his world.

This felt like some sort of triumph.

He was dressed in proper Westerosi garb as he looked about, trying to suss out any special challenges the summer might bring.

Even if Romeo's last week hadn't been as eventful as it was, coming back as a teacher would have been strange. It also seemed to him like the students had gotten younger over the last three years.

He took a plate of nachos and tried to look vaguely professorial as he ate them.

Callie was here to gather intelligence for her father, and run a storefront. Somehow, she'd received a letter about coming to a picnic -- a picnic? -- and meeting a 'teaching buddy.'

She wasn't sure why she needed a 'teaching buddy' to run a clothing store. Dear Satan, young people were annoying. And loud.

Oh, look at that. There was a name tag helpfully provided, with her name on it. She touched one finger to it, and it burned to a crisp.

"Oops."

Still, she was here in her SECURITY shirt and looking around for the new librarian -- she was grateful that it wasn't a teacher, at least, since she didn't know the first thing about running a class here.

She did have to wonder who actually calls themselves The Librarian, though. Like, was it a Mister What thing, or had the school board just lost the guy's contact info?

Honestly, Trick wished that he had a bar between himself and most of the adults here. Not just for the physical distance (and the crate that he used to stand on, back home in the Dal), but just because bar tenders were never at a loss for ready-made conversation.
