When the planning for the new semester had started, no one had really noticed that the welcome picnic would coincide with Cinco de Mayo. When the food arrived and all of it, including the desserts, had somehow ended up as a variety of Mexican food, well, it was a little too late to change anything.

Hopefully, the wandering mariachi band that had shown up wouldn't throw anyone either. It was a festive day of new arrivals, after all.

The blue and gold tables and chairs had been set out, along with nametags and the lists of Big and Little Siblings, and rooms and roommates for the new students. Assuming the shuttle arrived with all of the students and teachers in one piece, everything was set for the picnic to begin!

[OCD is up, have at it! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here and here, in an effort to keep browsers from breaking for as long as possible. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Once the crank had been turned enough times, the lid popped open and Yakko stood up. Don't question the fact that he took up more volume than the box. If you focused on that, you'd miss out on other important facts. Like what he looked like. And where that music (http://youtu.be/5_QffCZs-bg?t=15s) was coming from. And why he was singing.

The music really started to swell as Yakko jumped out of the box and began to flail his arms and spin around with emotion.

"Todaaaaay!

The music cut and Yakko reached out to shake Tyrion's hand, regardless of whether or not he was still holding the box. "Hi! I'm Yakko! I'm your new teaching buddy! Please be gentle, I've never been a teaching buddy before."

"Tyrion Lannister, and it's not new to me," Tyrion said, with reflective politeness that lasted ... exactly as long as the handshake. "What are you and why are you singing at me?"

The problem with Tyrion trying to be polite was that it never lasted when there was a more urgent question on his mind.

"I'm a Warner Brother!" Yakko said, pausing by instinct. Once he realized that nobody was finishing up the standard introduction, he continued, "And if my sibs were here, that punchline really would have landed. Going solo's tough."

While that answer actually answered Tyrion's questions as well as anything else ever would, it wasn't actually helpful at all unless you knew Yakko already. Or even then.

"But liberating," Tyrion said. His question as to species was still unanswered, but dwelling on the point hardly seemed worth it. "Familes don't matter here. Only what we do matters. It's a feeling one gets used to."

... so sometimes he got a little lecturey. Shhhh.

"But I have all these pictures of us together!" Yakko said, pulling a stack of signed publicity shots of himself, Wakko, and Dot out of his pocket. "They matter to me! More importantly, they matter to people on eBay. Can you believe these things sell for like fifteen bucks each?"

Tyrion looked at the photos thoughtfully.

"There's a market for things like that?"

He was a Lannister. Some part of his brain was always on making money.

"Are you kidding? You can get kids of the 90s to buy anything that reminds them of their childhood," Yakko said. "You should see me clean up at San Diego."

Tyrion had no idea what that meant. He'd have to look it up.

"Interesting," he nodded. "So what are you teaching, Yakko of House Warner?"

"Just a nice, normal, not at all weird history class," Yakko said. "One that will be both educational and entertaining, and definitely not with jokes that will fly over the kid's heads but their parents will find hilarious. Wink wink."

Was Yakko leaning in way too close to add the conspiratorial air? Yes. Yes, he was.

Wink wink, indeed. "Of course not," Tyrion said. "I would never encourage a fellow educator to amuse himself while he was teaching in that way."

"Great! Then you and I are gonna be the best of friends! We can make friendship bracelets, and braid each other's hair, and talk about girls, or boys, I don't judge," Yakko rattled off.

He pulled a baseball cap reading '#1 FRIEND' out of his pocket and held it out for Tyrion to take.

Tyrion considered it for a moment, then settled the cap atop his hair. "Does it suit me?"

"No, this suits you," Yakko said as he held up a bright blue suit with '#1 FRIEND' stitched on the jacket's breast pocket.

Visual pun. But it was actually Tyrion's size.

[OOC: Going to Avengers now. Back in a few hours!]

Tyrion's willingness to be agreeable only stretched so far. "... no," he said. "You can wear it yourself if you'd like."

"Nah, it doesn't go with my belt buckle," Yakko said, tossing it aside. "But thanks for the offer."
