Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

When the planning for the new semester had started, no one had really noticed that the welcome picnic would coincide with Cinco de Mayo. When the food arrived and all of it, including the desserts, had somehow ended up as a variety of Mexican food, well, it was a little too late to change anything.

Hopefully, the wandering mariachi band that had shown up wouldn't throw anyone either. It was a festive day of new arrivals, after all.

The blue and gold tables and chairs had been set out, along with nametags and the lists of Big and Little Siblings, and rooms and roommates for the new students. Assuming the shuttle arrived with all of the students and teachers in one piece, everything was set for the picnic to begin!

[OCD is up, have at it! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here and here, in an effort to keep browsers from breaking for as long as possible. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

After somehow managing to survive the death trap that had been the shuttle and it's incompetent driver, Holmes was continuing his hobo impression going to keep to the side in order to observe.

The future was very musical, it would seem.

"Tony?" Steve asked when he spotted Holmes. "Why are you dressed like that?" It was neither a multi-thousand dollar suit nor a grease-stained tank top. Something was wrong.

[identity profile] onemoreproblem.livejournal.com 2012-05-05 03:59 am (UTC)(link)
Holmes' mouth twitched up in something that was either a smile or a grimace depending on how you read those sort of things. "Beg pardon?"
screwyoumarvel: (Steve - huh)

And that was an English accent. "You're not Tony," Steve realized. If he sounded kind of disappointed, well, sorry, Holmes.

HEY NOW. HEY. HE WAS JUST AS SASSY. AND HAD HIS OWN BROMANCE THAT WAS HORRIBLY CODEPENDENT.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

"That appears to be going around," he said, offering a hand. "Holmes. With less impressive cheekbones, I have been assured by your bus driver."

'Bus driver' was filled with the same amount of loathing one might have reserved for murderers or poor, tormented housekeepers.

STEVE MISSED HIS BROMANTIC PARTNER. WAS THAT SO WRONG?

"Steve Rogers," Steve said, giving him a firm handshake. "Less impressive than...who? Because they look pretty much the same as Tony's from where I'm standing. Random doubles are...sort of a thing here."

Re: Meet Your Teachers [Summer 2012-1]

[identity profile] onemoreproblem.livejournal.com 2012-05-05 04:13 am (UTC)(link)
He was a twofer double though. Which was... special. And oh so sad, really.

Holmes' eyes flicked down at the hand for a moment before moving on. "Apparently my name proceeds me. In one manner or the other."

Time travel was a special enough thing, thank you. Just wait until he met his teaching buddy.

"Sherlock Holmes," Steve realized after a moment. "Yes, I remember him. He taught here one summer. Didn't look anything like you." He was modern, for one thing. Or maybe Holmes just liked to dress like that. Steve didn't like to assume.

"Two thousand and twelve." He looked around thoughtfully. "Well, I suppose it's a relief to know we haven't blown ourselves up as of yet."

It didn't take William very long to pick out the teacher who was dressed- well. Closer to his own style than the majority of Fandom's residents. If somewhat more sloppily.

In any case, that observation had him wandering over to the teacher in question and putting forth an inquiry: "What year is it, where you're from?"

Ah, someone dressed sensibly. There's a good lad. "Eighteen ninety one, last I checked."

"I thought so!" William beamed. "Well, not the exact year, I admit. But I figured you must not be too far off from my own time." A beat. "Eighteen-eighty." Hopefully he'd figured out by now that it was certainly not eighteen anything around here.

Holmes' eyes lit up for a moment. "Ah, a fellow lost lamb. How lucky to find each other."

[identity profile] faithandscience.livejournal.com 2012-05-05 04:49 am (UTC)(link)
"Not luck," William corrected. "Just a matter of observation." He then seemed to realise it might be slightly rude to correct someone who was presumably a teacher without even introducing himself, and so: "William Murdoch. Welcome to Fandom, if you haven't already heard that a dozen times over."

Re: Meet Your Teachers [Summer 2012-1]

[identity profile] onemoreproblem.livejournal.com 2012-05-05 04:52 am (UTC)(link)
"A pleasure, Mr. Murdoch. The name is Holmes," he replied with a sharp grin. "An observation, you said?"

"The cut of your jacket," William informed him. "Your shoes. Not typical of someone from this cen- did you say Holmes?" Perhaps he was Sherlock's ancestor? Or it could be a coincidence. There were, he knew, at least two other Murdochs in Fandom, albeit with a slight orthographical difference.

"It's the cheekbones that give it away, isn't it?" Holmes asked, circling poor, poor William like a shark. "Your classmates took me for a vagrant."

Pinkie was prancing her way through the welcome picnic, a name tag stuck prominently on her chest.

It had three balloons on it, and a scribble that KIND of looked like it might start with a cursive P. She still wasn't super good at writing in English.

"Sherlock Hooooooooooolmes," she sang. "Where aaaaaaaaaare you?"

Good job, Holmes! You've just drawn the pink pony's attention!

"Hi! Are you Sherlock Holmes? You look like you might be a Sherlock Holmes. Not that I know what a Sherlock Holmes would probably look like, I mean, maybe a Shamrock Horse or something back home in Equestria but not a Sherlock Holmes. But it is fun to say, isn't it? SherlockHolmesSherlockHolmesSherlockHolmes -- So are you? Sherlock Holmes I mean. Or fun to say. Either way. Hi! I'm Pinkie Pie!"

She might have even breathed in the midst of that. Maybe.

"Hello, Ms. Pie," Holmes replied after a moment. Because manners were best when dealing with a hallucination.

Pinkie gasped hard enough to physically lift off the ground. "You are Sherlock Holmes, aren't you?" What could she say? She was a totally awesome detective. Also, he hadn't denied being Sherlock Holmes, and unless he provided her some other name, that was plenty for her.

"I'm your new teaching buddy!" she said, offering her right hoof for a shake.

[identity profile] onemoreproblem.livejournal.com 2012-05-05 04:55 am (UTC)(link)
Let's face facts, she was only a detective because of the pipe. The pipe makes a detective.

Proven fact.

"Are you now?" he asked vaguely, eyeing the hoof with minor distaste. "I suppose I never should have tried the laudanum."

A beat.

"Or ridden that damned pony in France."

"Medicine." Oh, the 19th century. Holmes frowned, wondering just why he was answering questions from a pink pony.

With very fluffy hair.

That talked.
