Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

When the planning for the new semester had started, no one had really noticed that the welcome picnic would coincide with Cinco de Mayo. When the food arrived and all of it, including the desserts, had somehow ended up as a variety of Mexican food, well, it was a little too late to change anything.

Hopefully, the wandering mariachi band that had shown up wouldn't throw anyone either. It was a festive day of new arrivals, after all.

The blue and gold tables and chairs had been set out, along with nametags and the lists of Big and Little Siblings, and rooms and roommates for the new students. Assuming the shuttle arrived with all of the students and teachers in one piece, everything was set for the picnic to begin!

[OCD is up, have at it! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here and here, in an effort to keep browsers from breaking for as long as possible. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

He was a twofer double though. Which was... special. And oh so sad, really.

Holmes' eyes flicked down at the hand for a moment before moving on. "Apparently my name proceeds me. In one manner or the other."

Time travel was a special enough thing, thank you. Just wait until he met his teaching buddy.

"Sherlock Holmes," Steve realized after a moment. "Yes, I remember him. He taught here one summer. Didn't look anything like you." He was modern, for one thing. Or maybe Holmes just liked to dress like that. Steve didn't like to assume.

"Two thousand and twelve." He looked around thoughtfully. "Well, I suppose it's a relief to know we haven't blown ourselves up as of yet."
screwyoumarvel: (Steve - no I don't think so)

"Well, sometimes it gets a little iffy, but so far, so good," Steve told him. "What year is it where you hail from?"

"Eighteen ninety one," he replied dryly. "More than enough time to be a butterfly of some sort. Something about chaos theories, I've been told."

By a student.

"Unless you run into someone you know, those sorts of rules don't really seem to apply here." God knew Steve had worried about it enough in the past. "I'm sorry, I didn't introduce myself. Steve Rogers. I teach...a lot of things. Getting used to the twenty-first century, this session, actually."

"Well, I don't think they allow teachers to enroll. But if you wanted to sit in it would probably be just like old times! fine. We do get a lot of time-displaced people here. Probably more than anywhere except New York," Steve joked.

He was rambling a bit, and he knew he was rambling. Holmes' face threw him off, okay?

IT WAS AN AMAZING FACE, ROGERS. AMAZING.

"I will be certain to do just that." And freak out the T.A. As you do. "I find myself reluctant to travel down this rabbit hole to find where it may lead, however. Order and reason rebels against my very presence here."
screwyoumarvel: (Steve - no I don't think so)

"Well, yes," Steve agreed easily, "but I think you'll find order and reason don't so much apply here."

...

Please to not be making Holmes cry with your hatred of logic, Steve. It was unbecoming.

It wasn't Steve who hated logic, Holmes. It was the island. "Are you all right?" Was he going to swoon? Steve had experience with swooning.

HE WAS NOT ABOUT TO SWOON. GOD.

"Never been better," he replied, voice strained as he smiled.
screwyoumarvel: (Steve - if you say so)

[personal profile] screwyoumarvel 2012-05-05 02:57 pm (UTC)(link)
"I find that hard to believe," Steve said carefully, "since it's not every day that one finds themselves a hundred plus years displaced in time, with people mistaking you for someone else on top of that. I understand it's a lot to take in." You know, if you weren't from a universe and line of work like Steve's, where that was 'Tuesday.'

JUST DON'T TELL HIM ABOUT THE MAGIC YET. GOD.

It hadn't even occurred to Steve yet.

"And what would you say is the point?" he asked, curious to find out.

[identity profile] onemoreproblem.livejournal.com 2012-05-05 03:08 pm (UTC)(link)
"The point is that I have either suffered from a terrible break with reality, which I suppose might be the case, but we shall disregard it for now," Holmes rambled. "Or I have truly found a way into a world where such things are possible."

It was all very concerning. Enough so that Holmes was going to have to light a pipe because of it.

"I can assure you it's the second option, but I don't know how much you'll believe me at this point," Steve told him.

"Then this place will probably keep you very busy. Just remember the answer to 'is that real?' is usually 'yes.'"

Unless you'd been bitten by a gremlin.

That could only end in tears. All around.

"How exciting! Though I must say it is interesting that I appear to always lure in former soldiers to my cause."

NO, THAT WAS LUCK. AND SEX APPEAL.

"I wouldn't say I've joined your cause just yet," Steve said cautiously. "I don't know what your cause is, for one thing." Other than looking like Tony and dressing like he was homeless. Could that be a cause?

"Adjusting to this new time," Holmes lied smoothly. "And, perhaps, not being mistaken as a vagrant. Really, this suit is not that out of fashion."

Just in desperate need of a wash.
