Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

When the planning for the new semester had started, no one had really noticed that the welcome picnic would coincide with Cinco de Mayo. When the food arrived and all of it, including the desserts, had somehow ended up as a variety of Mexican food, well, it was a little too late to change anything.

Hopefully, the wandering mariachi band that had shown up wouldn't throw anyone either. It was a festive day of new arrivals, after all.

The blue and gold tables and chairs had been set out, along with nametags and the lists of Big and Little Siblings, and rooms and roommates for the new students. Assuming the shuttle arrived with all of the students and teachers in one piece, everything was set for the picnic to begin!

[OCD is up, have at it! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here and here, in an effort to keep browsers from breaking for as long as possible. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

"Well, yes," Steve agreed easily, "but I think you'll find order and reason don't so much apply here."

...

Please to not be making Holmes cry with your hatred of logic, Steve. It was unbecoming.

It wasn't Steve who hated logic, Holmes. It was the island. "Are you all right?" Was he going to swoon? Steve had experience with swooning.

HE WAS NOT ABOUT TO SWOON. GOD.

"Never been better," he replied, voice strained as he smiled.
screwyoumarvel: (Steve - if you say so)

"I find that hard to believe," Steve said carefully, "since it's not every day that one finds themselves a hundred plus years displaced in time, with people mistaking you for someone else on top of that. I understand it's a lot to take in." You know, if you weren't from a universe and line of work like Steve's, where that was 'Tuesday.'

JUST DON'T TELL HIM ABOUT THE MAGIC YET. GOD.

"Several someones, it seems. But that is hardly the point."

It hadn't even occurred to Steve yet.

"And what would you say is the point?" he asked, curious to find out.

"The point is that I have either suffered from a terrible break with reality, which I suppose might be the case, but we shall disregard it for now," Holmes rambled. "Or I have truly found a way into a world where such things are possible."

It was all very concerning. Enough so that Holmes was going to have to light a pipe because of it.

"I can assure you it's the second option, but I don't know how much you'll believe me at this point," Steve told him.

"Yes," Steve said, "I do, but I don't think it's very productive, because this is all real."

"Then this place will probably keep you very busy. Just remember the answer to 'is that real?' is usually 'yes.'"

Unless you'd been bitten by a gremlin.

That could only end in tears. All around.

"How exciting! Though I must say it is interesting that I appear to always lure in former soldiers to my cause."

NO, THAT WAS LUCK. AND SEX APPEAL.

"I wouldn't say I've joined your cause just yet," Steve said cautiously. "I don't know what your cause is, for one thing." Other than looking like Tony and dressing like he was homeless. Could that be a cause?

"Adjusting to this new time," Holmes lied smoothly. "And, perhaps, not being mistaken as a vagrant. Really, this suit is not that out of fashion."

Just in desperate need of a wash.

"We do laundry more often now," Steve said. "There are machines that will wash your clothes for you, so it's much less labor-intensive." He understood the different standards completely--his mother had been a laundress, after all.

Of course, that meant Steve's clothes might have been shabby, but they were always clean.

"And the fashions are very different now, though more for women than men, as I'm sure you've noticed. That won't matter as much around here, though, since some people prefer to stick to their local styles of dress."

Holmes pulled his shirt up to sniff, making a face at it. "Transatlantic passage left very little opportunity, I must admit."

When you're hiding away in with the poorest of individuals, that was.

"You will show me. My housekeeper had been terribly lax in her duties before that."

Because he tormented her. Also, she thought he was dead.

Well, someone certainly had to, but Steve didn't exactly appreciate this guy he'd just met issuing him an order like that. He wasn't the help.

"It'll probably be a subject in my class," he offered.

It tended to be Homes' default state of being, sadly. It might be blamed on the whole 'Looking like Tony Stark' thing. Or the fact that he had been able to con so many people into assisting him over the years.

"In time to prevent me from ruining my delicate sense of smell?"

Yes, but... shut up.

"Well, that's unfortunate." He was probably going to put the lesson on laundry up front so those who didn't have changes of clothes could benefit, but he didn't feel like admitting that to this stranger wearing Tony's face. Shh, occasionally Captain America was allowed to be a little petty.
