When the planning for the new semester had started, no one had really noticed that the welcome picnic would coincide with Cinco de Mayo. When the food arrived and all of it, including the desserts, had somehow ended up as a variety of Mexican food, well, it was a little too late to change anything.

Hopefully, the wandering mariachi band that had shown up wouldn't throw anyone either. It was a festive day of new arrivals, after all.

The blue and gold tables and chairs had been set out, along with nametags and the lists of Big and Little Siblings, and rooms and roommates for the new students. Assuming the shuttle arrived with all of the students and teachers in one piece, everything was set for the picnic to begin!

[OCD is up, have at it! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here and here, in an effort to keep browsers from breaking for as long as possible. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Electroclash was here, in uniform, and with a name tag affixed to her chest. And scowling.

She'd been saddled with two teaching buddies. She was more than a little convinced the SPA was behind this.

Romeo noticed the nametag first, then the chest, then the scowl.

"Hello," he said, with the slightest smile. "I'm Romeo Montague. My" -- and here he fumbled a bit for the proper word, since 'girlfriend' didn't seem incredibly professional -- "partner should be along in a moment. Though we both graduated from here, so we may know much of what you wish to tell us."

"Not much I wish to tell you anyway, mate," Electroclash drawled. Hey, no one had remembered to tell her to try and be nice.

Not that she seemed like her scorn was particularly aimed at Romeo, though. "But good. Doubt the place's changed much since then."

"It's not been so long since we were back for a visit, either," Romeo assured her. "The island turned me into a garden gnome a few months ago."

He considered if he had any questions. "How are the students?"

Electroclash gave that a little shrug of her shoulder. The bare one. Oh, uniform.

"Okay, I s'pose," she said. "Haven't given anyone detention yet."

Of course, she wasn't that likely to do that in the first place. Except perhaps out of spite.

"I got one once," Romeo volunteered. "For punching someone."

He thought it over. Sokka had deserved it, but...

"'Twas not an experience I want to repeat, in either giving or getting."

"Well, as far as I can tell, neither does anyone else." She hadn't heard of any detentions given out while she'd been here. Maybe everyone was too busy dealing with the island. "And I'm not judging, I'm here for community fucking service."

"I can't judge that, either," said He Who Had Once Been Banished. "Might I ask what you did, or would you rather not talk about it?"

Electroclash wrinkled her nose at the memory. "It was self-defense." Yeah, you just keep telling yourself that. "That's all you need to know. What've they roped you into teach, then?"

"It's a relationships course," Romeo said. "We met here, and apparently the fools who run the school think that qualifies us to advise the students. What is yours?"

"Heroics, Fame, and You," Electroclash recited with a little sigh and a roll of her eyes. "How to get ahead in the cape game, pretty much."

"I don't have any powers," Romeo said, sounding a bit wistful about it. "I'm sure you're not lacking for students, though."

"Not really," she agreed. "Though not all of them are powered. Some are just regular kids."

Though for the life of her she couldn't figure out why they'd want to be in her classes.
