Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part III

In order to give people a place to get away from the traffic jam of the buffet and information tables, most of the chairs and tables for guests were set up further out on the lawn, under a tall blue and gold tent. There was plenty of room for everyone to sit down and enjoy themselves, but it might not have all been dry. Did we mention being grateful that it was just water falling from the sky?

Jaime was not moping. Moping was not what Jaime was doing. He was just sitting in one of the out-of-the-way chairs with an untouched plate of food and a gloomy expression.

But it wasn't moping!

He was, to be fair, trying to look around and spot some newbies he could welcome. Or... something.

Ryan was grateful to see such a large spread of food. She loaded up her plate like someone who'd been eating bland hospital food for weeks and made sure to grab a cup of coffee before finding a spot to sit away from the crowd.

Bod arrived a little later than usual due to his shift in the library but he didn't want to completely miss the picnic. He'd picked up a bottle of water and was drinking it slowly while strolling through the crowd, almost enjoying the rain that was falling.

Nathan didn't have any real reason to be out the picnic but the food. He wasn't a big sibling (and you could all be thankful for that) and he wasn't any sort of welcome wagon (and, be thankful).

Instead, he was standing off to the side, lit cigarette between his lips while he glanced around the crowd and made up stories for everyone new he saw. It was kind of really fun and entertaining.

Caroline joined him on the outskirts, wondering if he'd seen the posting or not. For once she wasn't going to complain about the smoking. "So, how are you rating this batch of newcomers?"

Percy really kind of had other things on his mind that weren't picnics so distraction was the name of his game today. He was standing under a tree, enjoying the rain (this place needed more water) and thinking of someone who was a long ways away.

Having finished his food, now Herc was amusing himself by balancing olives on his biceps then flexing to see if they'd stay put.

This is what happens when there is no alcohol. Be grateful he hasn't started singing.

This guy looked like he would have fit in to that circus class last session. A strong man or something like that.

Yeah, there really weren't too many people who could possibly dress like that, so when Bobby got close enough to confirm that yes, that definitely was who he thought it was, he did the only logical thing: launched a cherry tomato right at Herc's forehead.

Ramona had pulled her hood away from her face, at least, and was looking a little more on edge than she had been earlier -- if you knew her, anyway. To the untrained eye, she was about as bored as ever.

Warren was a little late to the picnic today, but that was because humidity tended to be extra uncomfortable when one had large quantities of feathers. Feathers which he wasn't bothering to hide, today. After all, what was one guy with wings when compared to an island currently off the coast of Atlantis? And besides, some of the teachers this semester were way weirder than he was.

He hoped.

Either way, he'd made his way to the picnic a little late, and was standing just inside one of the tents, making faces at the rain. And keeping an eye out for interesting new people too, sure.

Last time, Sam had been one of the new kids. This time, he wasn't new but he still felt out of place and like he hadn't really settled in yet. He'd wandered down a little later in the day, glancing out at the crowd and then really looking to see if he noticed anything unusual.

Nothing was pinging yet but he figured if anyone smelled death on him, the vision in his head would start going off big time. For now, he was just going to grab a plate and take it easy.

Elphaba wasn't particularly sociable on the best of days, but she came to the welcome picnic. She'd gotten a bit wet on her way, and sat down at a table with a soggy squelch and frowned a bit.

Thank goodness she wasn't actually allergic to water or anything.

Bruce was still around, only now he had a bottle of water. Because apparently he wasn't getting enough water from the rain.

Cassel was still around, mostly because he didn't really have anywhere else to go. He had stopped looking so nervous and instead just watched people closely, trying to guess what their stories were.

The rain had kept Richie away for a little while. Then he'd decided he was from the Pacific Northwest and could handle a little rain. Besides, if this picnic was anything like the one when he'd arrived he wanted to get some of the free food.

He had, and was now working on a large plate of food and doing a little people watching. Mostly because they were there.

Sookie was still snacking a little and looking around at people, though her head was starting to hurt a little from keeping everyone out. It was good practice for next year, though.

Bobby was a bit late, but he was here, damnit. And, yeah, totally wondering who would show up from some version of his world this time. It had happened pretty consistently almost every newbie day, after all.

Pinkie . . . was maybe a little bit overstimulated. There were so many new strange ponies (and wolves and Thundercats) to meet! And so much sugar!

Which would be why she was currently doing cartwheels around the picnic, giggling and shouting "Whoo!"

Toby was maybe looking more than a little glassy-eyed and unfocused by this point. It couldn't be helped, with so many people around, their thoughts were bound to leak through what could laughably be called his mental defenses. But still, he was here, and nibbling away at some snacks.

Bart looked around at the people gathered, then noticed the food. Food was easier to understand than people. Food it was. There was a blur and the words "excuse me" and "sorry" came from seemingly nowhere as food disappeared from the tables in bits.

And then Bart was back where he started from, but this time with a plate of munchies, happily chomping away. He didn't look like he didn't want to talk to people, but food came before people. Them's the rules.
