Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part III

In order to give people a place to get away from the traffic jam of the buffet and information tables, most of the chairs and tables for guests were set up further out on the lawn, under a tall blue and gold tent. There was plenty of room for everyone to sit down and enjoy themselves, but it might not have all been dry. Did we mention being grateful that it was just water falling from the sky?

Which, well. Bobby had known the guy long enough that he knew to just roll with it. "Nice to see you too," he greeted. "...And I'm not tiny."

"You are compared to the Bobby I know," Hercules said, putting Bobby down. Bobby probably would have noticed that Hercules' hug was a bit less robust than normal.

"Well, perhaps not tiny. But would you prefer cuter?"

He was teasing, now.

"No!" Bobby yelped. Because Hercules calling him cute was just... no. "How come I'm always older or younger for everyone else?" he complained.

"Time travel? Alternate universes? The Twilight Zone? I saw that last one in a documentary on the SyFy channel," Hercules said. "Does it really matter? I accept you as Bobby Drake, as a hero, and as my friend. Even if you are not quite the Bobby that I know at home."

Hercules paused. "You are keeping your identity secret here?" he said, leaning in to whisper. "Are there silly purple robots around to attack you?"

Bobby nodded. "Yes," he replied. "Uh, to that first thing. There've been none of the second."

...Yet, anyway.

"So this school is unsafe?" Hercules said, still whispering. "I've never been good at the secret identity thing. I mean, it's not like anyone bought the Harry Cleese, IT consultant thing."

...Considering that in Bobby's experience, Herc's way of dealing with buggy technology was to smash it? Yeah. He could see why no one would buy the IT consultant thing indeed.

"Uh, well," Bobby said somewhat hesitantly. "I guess it's not unsafe, really," plenty of people had powers, and were open about it, and nobody hated them for it... but old habits died hard. "I mean, the school gets attacked sometimes, but it's not like the people who live here have problems with-" he trailed off. "I don't know. I just don't feel like people need to know that about me, you know?"
