Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part III

In order to give people a place to get away from the traffic jam of the buffet and information tables, most of the chairs and tables for guests were set up further out on the lawn, under a tall blue and gold tent. There was plenty of room for everyone to sit down and enjoy themselves, but it might not have all been dry. Did we mention being grateful that it was just water falling from the sky?

Jaime was not moping. Moping was not what Jaime was doing. He was just sitting in one of the out-of-the-way chairs with an untouched plate of food and a gloomy expression.

But it wasn't moping!

He was, to be fair, trying to look around and spot some newbies he could welcome. Or... something.

"Still here, Reyes?" Urge to kill Reach technology... rising.

Oh, look! It was exactly who Jaime was hoping to run into today! Like, really!

That facepalm of his was just a way of saying 'Yay!'.

"Guy. Hi. And, yes. Until the end of the summer."

"Don't look too excited to see me."

Jaime rubbed his face, then sighed. "Sorry. I'm just a bit out of it today." He stood up and offered guy his hand. "Good to see you, Guy."

SEE! JAIME COULD BE POLITE!

Well, considering it was Guy he was being polite to...

Guy took his hand, yanking the kid forward to give him a noogie. It was in honor of Ted. Or because he could. Who knew? "This mean you graduated?"

"Dang it, Guy!" Jaime ~~squealed~~ complained. "Quit that!"

Jaime's hands were all flaily, trying to push Guy, who was quite a bit bigger than he was, away. "And yes I graduated!"

Oh, he was just lucky that Guy let him go.

"Congrats! I'd buy you a drink, but..." Look, someone still followed the law with his bar. Even though it was mostly alien clientele.

"But I don't drink."

Right. It wasn't that Jaime was still underage. Obviously.

"What are you doing here?"

Riiiiight.

Guy shrugged, focus firmly on some spot in the distance. "Back on Earth for now, so I might as well keep busy."

And grumble about Oa aaaaall the time.

"Oh. Did they kick you out of the Corps?"

Like he could miss the Scarab's screaming about the ring.

"Don't make me put you in a headlock," Guy replied maturely. Because that was a completely responsible thing to do to a teenager.

"You wouldn't dare!"

Oh, sure, Jaime. Egg on the crazy Green Lantern. That's always a good idea.

"Who do I look like? Hal?" OH SNAP.

...

"No. He has a silly mask."

"Kyle does too." What was up with that? "Like covering your cheekbones is really gonna fool a lotta people who know you."

"Actually, isn't Kyle's sillier?" Jaime doesn't really know Kyle that well, to be fair, so he could be wrong...

Guy sighed. "Yeah, that crab thing. You know, for someone with unlimited imagination, he sure screwed that one up."

"Hey," Jaime frowned suddenly. "How come you don't have a mask?"

"Same reason John doesn't. No need for one."

That and someone loooooved being a hero.

"Wouldn't want anyone to mistake you for someone else?" Jaime asked with a wry roll of his eyes.

"Of course not. No one else could be me."

HE WAS AWESOME.

"Thank goodness."

And he didn't have to fake his relief on that one.

"I could always call Booster. I'm sure he'd love to celebrate your graduation."

Yes. Party with Booster Gold. DO IT.a

...

"You wouldn't dare."

Jaime says that to Guy a lot. Which is silly of him since he knows that Guy would dare.
