Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part III

In order to give people a place to get away from the traffic jam of the buffet and information tables, most of the chairs and tables for guests were set up further out on the lawn, under a tall blue and gold tent. There was plenty of room for everyone to sit down and enjoy themselves, but it might not have all been dry. Did we mention being grateful that it was just water falling from the sky?

"More," Tony decided on. "I mean, at least mechanical wings would make sense."

"Really? I mean, without rocket boosters or jet engines or whatever?"

He totally didn't see something like that actually getting off the ground. Figuratively or literally speaking, really.

"They could always be used for gliding on top of the thrust from the boot jets." He loved his boot jets. "Plus, they'd look pretty cool."

His version of a cape, maybe?

"... They kind of would," Warren agreed, after a moment's thought.

Hey. They sounded stupid from the point of view of a guy with wings of his own, but at the same time? They seemed pretty shiny, too.

"Not that I really need a pair of my own," he added. Because, again, what in the world would be do with metal wings? Would the feathers be like knives or something? What the heck?

Don't be silly, Warren. How could anyone fly with organic metal wings and blue skin. I mean...

"Which is how we know science is cooler than magic."

HE WOULD CONVERT ALL.

YOU POSED SUCH A CONVINCING ARGUMENT, TONY.

"Well, I don't know. Science hasn't given me a way to hide these things yet, beyond strapping them down or completely taking them away," Warren noted. "Two totally different types of magic have let me hang out on the beach without freaking people out on more than one occasion. That's pretty cool."

"No, but science explains them," Tony replied. Which wasn't helpful at all. "Plus, you don't have to hide them here."

"Which really doesn't do me any good in a year, when I graduate," Warren pointed out. "I've had them explained to me on a fairly regular basis since I was about seven. I think I could probably tell you pretty much anything about my own physiology that you ever wanted to know, and then more for good measure."

Thanks, science.

"...really?" Tony gave that some thought. "So, you know biology?"

Ew, soft sciences.

"My dad does own America's biggest producer and supplier of pharmaceuticals," Warren pointed out. "You kind of pick these things up after a while."

Especially when you were bombarded with it for half of your life because you were a genefreak.

"But I've kind of made it a personal mission to stay as far away from syringes and test tubes as I possibly can. I'm more interested in the business aspect of it all, personally."

"Ohhh." His poor nerd rejection. "But not everyone actually does hands on stuff with their companies."

Said the guy who personally held half the patents for products produced by them for the past five years.

"I was looking into some of the biological parts of the tech I saw in Japan."

"What, for the cyborg implants?" Warren tilted his head a little. No, he wasn't exactly the world's top biologist or anything, but speculating could prove to be interesting, maybe. "Or something else?"

"Exactly," Tony replied brightly. "Though I was looking to simplify it for prosthetic limbs at the moment. It wouldn't be feasible to go further than that if I want it to be easily obtained."

"True enough," Warren agreed, thoughtfully. "You'd have to find some pretty potent drugs to prevent the body from rejecting something like that. Not to mention some really delicate work with nerves, if you want those limbs to be able to feel, too."

Prosthetic limbs that could feel would be pretty amazing, even Warren had to admit.

"They had these micro-machines that were incorporated into the nervous system for the robotics to work like that, but I don't even know where to start on retro-engineering them," Tony replied. "Something that small and well programed to work with your brain... It's so far beyond anything I've ever seen."

"Or me," Warren agreed. "Some kind of bio-mechanics... And I didn't even think to figure out what year we were sitting in while we were there. I wonder if a portal could get us back there, if we wanted."

To ask a bunch of angry, terrifying future-cyborg-Japanese people how cyborgs were made.

That wouldn't end in tears at all!

"We could always try," Tony said. "You know, if we figured out this design and tried to market it in our New Yorks, we would confuse the other us's."

Yes, confuse Movie!Tony! Doooo iiiit.

While some poor CG Warren tried to figure out when the heck his family had ever had anything to do with electronics or implant anti-rejection drugs.

"We would," Warren agreed, grinning a little at the thought. "It would be kind of awesome, huh?"

Look, every other Warren in the history of other Warrens was way more outgoing than he was. They could deal with a bit of doppelganger confusion.

"I'll show you what I have done when it's further along," Tony replied cheerfully. Because any time he could geek out like this, he was thrilled.

"Hey, that would be great," Warren replied, fairly cheerful, himself. "And I can look into what it would take to keep the human body from just rejecting that sort of thing outright."

Not that he was a doctor or anything. That kind of stuff would definitely need a lot of proper testing by professionals. Preferably ones who did so far away from him.

... He could pick up the slack in marketing, at least.

And Tony could be reckless and try it on himself. Or something. Because, for a genius, he was very dumb.

Tony held up a hand for a high five. "Alright!"

Oh, come on. If they had to try sawing off body parts to replace them with new ones, they could try on Warren. He at least had a natural healing factor, right?

Which would do nothing for the drugs, really. But still.

"Alright!"

At least high-fiving, they could do.

Then they'd both end up with Extremis and the world would collapse! COLLAPSE!

"We just need to include Bruce and it will be the Fandom titans of industry," he said, lowering his voice for the last part.

Oh, hey. Warren liked the sound of that!

"We'd pretty much be an unstoppable force of multidimensional research and development," Warren mused, his smile going somewhere just a little to the left of sly. "Why haven't we thought of this before?"

"As long as I don't end up with a perm, I think it's an awesome plan." WHY, PERM? WHY?
