Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part III

In order to give people a place to get away from the traffic jam of the buffet and information tables, most of the chairs and tables for guests were set up further out on the lawn, under a tall blue and gold tent. There was plenty of room for everyone to sit down and enjoy themselves, but it might not have all been dry. Did we mention being grateful that it was just water falling from the sky?

"What? Shorter? I-" Oh god, there were knuckles in his scalp. knuckles belonging to someone who was just a smidge larger than he was.

Someone that he didn't know.

Which would be why he was taking this opportunity to squirm as though his life depended on it. Warren's experiences with noogies were pretty limited to whatever Bobby could generally manage before he was relocated by a flailing wing, after all.

"Um!"

Well, luckily for Warren Hercules wasn't superstrong anymore. His grip relinquished, and Herc stepped to the side and got a good look.

"...You seem younger, too," he said. "Did Hank do this? Or Reed?"

Reed? The astrophysics teacher? Hank? Huh?

"No?" Warren was boggling just a little as he lifted one hand in a vain attempt to fix his hair.

It was beyond help, now.

"No," he said again, because that seemed like the way to go. "I'm pretty much older than I ever was." And now he was even older. And now he was even older... "Except for that weekend where the island made everybody older for a little bit, but that's just Fandom. Nobody really did this to me. You... know another Warren, maybe?"

"Warren Worthington, known to the world as Angel, Champion and former X-Person?" Hercules tried. "My former teammate, and life-long friend?"

Herc was getting a little confused.

And now Warren was beginning to wonder just how many lifelong friends he'd never met before.

"The first one, at least," he replied, with an apologetic little smile. "Warren Worthington III. But I'm not really known to the world as anything, and I've never... been on a super team, or anything like that."

He bit his lip, and then pressed on. Explanations were great things, here, right?

"Bobby and I had this conversation too, when he first spotted me here. This place pulls people from all sorts of realities, so the one that I'm from is... pretty different from wherever it is you're from. I'm mostly just a kid with wings, really."

Hercules wasn't going to take no for an answer. He just grinned. "Then we shall have to work on the others! But perhaps not the X-Person thing. Useless bunch, really." He stuck out his hand, in offer of a shake.

"I am Hercules, and even if you are not the Angel I know, you are still my friend."

So help him, that 'Angel' name was kind of starting to grow on Warren. Which he would worry about in a bit. Right now? There was a god shaking his hand. Warren managed to refrain from looking too starstruck as he accepted the handshake.

"Well, it's good to meet you, then," he replied. "Even if it means that Bobby's got someone to back him up on that trying to get me into tights thing."

Worse now, Warren. Tights with red suspenders.

"...I never was a fan of tights," Herc said, conveniently forgetting the period of time he dressed like He-Man (http://superherouniverse.com/wiki/images/thumb/3/3e/Hercules_marvel.jpg/270px-Hercules_marvel.jpg). "But wait... Bobby? Bobby Drake?"

There was an excited gleam in Herc's eyes.

"Um... Yes?"

See what you did, Warren? Do you see that, there? that was a terrifying gleam, if ever he'd seen one.

"That would be the Bobby I was talking about."

Doomed.

"...Natalia and Johnny are not here as well, are they?" Hercules said. Any of the Champions reuniting together would be a dream come true for Herc... but to have all of them (okay, he was forgetting about Darkstar) together again would be legendary.

Herc grin dropped, momentarily. "...wait. You would not know who they are. A shame! But three Champions, together!"

He paused.

"Is Bobby little like you? Because that would be adorable."

Bobby should fear for his cheek getting pinched.

"Little? Uh... He's about my age. And I don't know any Natalias or Johnnys, sorry."

Though there had been a Johnny Blaze here once upon a time, that was well before Warren and Bobby had shown up.

"I don't know if I'd call Bobby adorable, though."

He'd call him... well... Bobby. His best buddy and slightly insane. But adorable?

... Maybe a little.

"Well, more fun for the rest of us," Hercules decided. "Perhaps we can find able volunteers to join us, should we need to right wrongs or fight HYDRA or the like. And it would be good practice for you, if they did!"

"I guess I could always use more practice," Warren mused, remembering... pretty much every time he'd had his ass kicked in the past couple of years, ever. "And around here, it isn't like trouble doesn't get stirred up on a monthly basis, anyhow. There were robo-spiders the other week, actually."

"...then my class will be extra useful," Herc mused. "But yes, we shall train you to be the best Angel yet! And hopefully you won't ever turn blue."

That was a genuine worry.

"I... Yeah."

What was with everyone and that blue thing, anyhow?

"I'm trying to avoid any unfortunate bouts of blueness, if at all possible," he settled on, after a moment of being completely at a loss for words.

"Good," Hercules said. "Not that is anything wrong with a little color. I'm rather fond of green, myself!"

He laughed. He was really a jolly fellow.

He was. And in the face of mild azure-related trauma, even Warren couldn't help but smile a little.

"I guess there are worse things in life to look in the mirror to see," he offered. Considering his wings, once upon a time, were one of the worst things he could imagine, that was a bit of a concession, of sorts.

... Though blue skin would be a little more difficult to hide from the general public. And his father would have kittens if he saw Warren looking like that.

"Besides, what is best in life is found in here," Herc pointed at his head, "and here," he pointed at his heart.

"Though some very good things can be found a bit lower, as well!"

The feet. Dear God, Warren hoped that Herclues was talking about feet.

"Yep," he agreed, in that tone of voice that suggested that he was pretty positive that Herc wasn't thinking about feet, there. "Yep, they definitely can."

In some other reality, some other Warren was shaking his head sadly at this particular Warren's complete and utter failure at the 'playboy' part of the whole 'millionaire playboy' gig.

That other Warren had clearly never met Karla.

Hercules just grinned. "You are a good young man, Warren. Even if you seem a little... different. But I do hope I will see you in my class."

"True Heroism?" Warren's smile was resolute, dammit! "I'm signed up for it, yeah. And a physical education class, and one on avoiding misadventure."

A beat.

"Like we've already established, I have a bit of catching up to do before I'm anything like, uh... Angel. But I'm working on it."

NEVER GOING TO BE BLUE.

"Well, maybe my class will help get you up to speed," Hercules said. "I shall see you on Friday, if I may take my leave."

"Of course," Warren replied, nodding a little, and trying once again to fix his hair.

Yeah, no, it was going to be stuck in funny directions until he went and stood out in the rain.

"I'll see you on Friday, then. And welcome to Fandom, Hercules."
