Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

It was Fall! It was stupidly humid today and it was about a billion degrees, but the picnic area was full of apples, pumpkins, and those decorative corn stalks that looked cute until it rained. There was food on tables--including more Cup Noodles than strictly necessary--and chairs scattered throughout the lawn in front of the castle.

Welcome, new and old, to Fandom High! It's only gonna get weirder.

[This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Clare felt like she was quite prepared for this, having sponsored a wain from Chernobyl who'd tried to sleep with James and all. She'd even remembered to bring a gift that wasn't from the bottom of Erin's purse.

Everyone enjoyed biscuits, right? Right! So she bounced on her tiptoes and yelled, "Terra?" in a hopeful way.

Someone was shouting her name.

Why was someone shouting her name? Had she done something wrong already?

Oh, no. They were going to send her home and while she really hadn't been all that keen to leave Alfea in the first place, her father was sure to give her that disappointed look she hated so very, very much and she really didn't want to have to do that.

She straightened up, figuring the least she could do is face the music, and headed towards the sound of someone calling her name.

"Yes?" she said. "I'm- that's me. Terra."

So this was Fandom. Kiem had put on a name tag, and looked around for his big sibling. He tried to seem a lot more relaxed than he felt, but didn't quite succeed.

Alara had spent the last week handwaviky on Xelaya and gotten in late last night.

She’d found out she was going to be a big sibling this semester and headed to the Welcome Picnic, looking around til she found the name tag, “Hi Kiem?” she said with a smile as she approached him, “I’m Alara, I’m your big sibling,”

So far Fandom High was completely different to what Jo had expected and put on a name tag as she looked for her big sibling.

She tugged at her blouse rather awkwardly as she waited.

Belle was on the lookout for her new roommate, complete with a carefully lettered name tag stuck to her chest. She would miss Lydia, of course, but she'd grown accustomed to having someone else around and a new roommate would be welcome.

Stark was there to be met. Stark was thoroughly confused, but he was still there.

Obviously there had been some sort of mistake with the classes. He didn't know anything about superheroing. Well, he knew a little. He knew some superheroes. He knew that he was not one. Maybe this could be fixed? Maybe.

Sure, Rosa was there. She always came to these things, even if she didn't usually want to. Sometimes, they were pretty great for entertainment purposes, seeing all the wide-eyed little newbies try to acclimate themselves to their exciting new home.

Today, however, she seemed to only be there just to try her absolute hardest to make the phrase if looks could kill into a reality by pretty much staring daggers into Summer Smith's back the whole time.

So, you know. Definitely putting off her usual friendly and approachable vibe.

Even though there was a certain woman in a leather jacket (in August!) currently attempting to murder her with her thoughts alone, Summer was seriously pumped and ready and wasn't going to let that get her down (nice try, though, Rosa!). Because it was Newbie Day, and she had a new school-assigned friend to keep an eye out for and she was the typical ball of energy and excitement that usually came with such events, especially when such events came with a big fat opportunity to break a brain or two in the process.

Seriously, how could anyone not love Newbie Day??

Having managed to get here, Jon felt like he ought to hang about at least a bit. Even if the weather was atrocious.

He'd eventually realized that the cloth Gladio had given him was actually a shirt, and while it was neither his style nor his inclination, at least the black tank top (roughly five sizes too big) hid the bloodstains better than his stabbed-through button-up (which he had balled up in his hands).

Of course, it meant a host of his worm scars and the large stab wound on his shoulder were on fine display.

And there was...quite a crowd here. Jon would maybe just find a quiet place under a tree to stand awkwardly.

Even Hannibal couldn't wear a three-piece suit in this weather. So he was instead in tailored linen slacks and a light button-up. He did still have his thermal bag with him, though. Some traditions needed to be upheld, and he had a new teacher to greet.

It would have been impossible for Gladio to have strolled into the Welcome Picnic after rolling onto the island in a godsdamn Cup Noodle^TM bus without a big grin on his face, and that was exactly what happened. Obviously, his was keeping an eye out for a few particular people, but his spirits were high and his stomach was maybe starting to rumble a little the moment he saw those food tables, but they could wait until he had a chance to touch base with the others and maybe get a scope of the place from the perspective of someone who was actually going to be staying awhile instead of just visiting for a change.

Kitty was barely caffeinated, and had a two-year-old who was being really overdramatic about the heat while also doing things that would overheat her, like trying futilely to climb the tree she was hiding under. So who knew how long they'd actually be here.

Sometimes, Shunsui wondered if it felt as good as it did to be back on the island again after a spell back in the Soul Society just because he wasn't in the Seireitei anymore, but it was hard to feel like the appreciation for the place was not completely genuine when he fluttered up with his robes and his sake to see everyone gathered around for the picnic, sipping contentedly as he glanced around to take note of any particularly beautiful new faces in the crowd. And, of course, as always, many of the more familiar ones, as well!

Not being expected to train or work while he was here on this particular day was part of it, but it was also difficult to just not be happy to be here.

It felt weird being on this side of the Welcome Picnic, as Goose tried not to regret his decision to be in black denim today.

He put on a name tag, those he didn’t miss and looked around.

Even the late night setting up things for the shuttle didn't keep Prompto from being a big ball of energy at the picnic, both with excitement for seeing just what Gladio had to think of their handiwork and being quick on his feet and attentive enough to try and avoid the inevitable glares that would be coming his way thanks to whatever Bus Dean thought of their handiwork.

Thankfully, being fidgety and moving around a lot was never anything Prompto had trouble with, but he was definitely around and keeping an eye out.

"Wonderful!" said Sidon, with a big, toothy grin as he looked over the picnic upon his arrival, still dripping from the swim he'd had just prior to this where he could grab a few fish on the go because he didn't want to stuff himself entirely with just the pizza he'd absolutely be claiming later. "What a marvelous semester we shall have in store for us this fall!"

Because what was a Welcome Picnic without the school's own resident royal red cheerleader lifting up everyone's spirits?

With a newfound resolution to avoid any axes for a little while, Ignis was, of course, present and ready to attend to his expectations as a teacher by making an appearance at the welcome picnic, where he would eventually, of course, find his way over to Gladio to see just what his compatriot thought of the machinations of their mutual friends on his transportation to the island.

Because, yes, he had seen the pictures.

There had been...so...so many of them from Prompto.

Ignis would honestly be surprised if there wasn't a perminent red spot on the bridge of his nose from pinching it in dismay at what he had been forced to witness.

He certainly had to give them points for going all out, though.

Amaya had managed to find some meat on a stick among the food, bearing it proudly in one hand while the other held a drink, so she supposed it was a good thing she probably wouldn't need her hands if anyone decided to come talk to her! But if there was another way to spend a picnic than this? She didn't think she'd care to bother with it!
