Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

It was Fall! It was stupidly humid today and it was about a billion degrees, but the picnic area was full of apples, pumpkins, and those decorative corn stalks that looked cute until it rained. There was food on tables--including more Cup Noodles than strictly necessary--and chairs scattered throughout the lawn in front of the castle.

Welcome, new and old, to Fandom High! It's only gonna get weirder.

[This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Oh hey, familiar face Octavia hadn't seen in a while, and who hadn't been at the store this week when she'd visited.

"Konnichiwa, Shunsui."

It was a break week! Which meant he actually had to go and do his actual job, or at least make an appearance to give the impression that he still, sometimes, actually did his actual job. Either way you looked at it, though, it was a terribly trying inconvenience.

One that continued to be pushed blissfully out of his mind the more the day went on and the more familiar faces that he rather enjoyed looked at (some of which he also hadn't seen in a while) appeared.

"Ahhhhh, Octavia-chan~ ♥," he sang out happily, lazy grin all but splitting his face, and his cup lifted in gratitude to such a vision resurfacing again. "Hisashiburi desu ne~~ ♥! What good timing ♥!"

Octavia snorted, faint and soft. "Why is that?" she asked.

Their history suggested he might've said that no matter when she showed up.

"Well," Shunsui's smile slipped into its usual crookedness, "you've obviously made a return from your journeys, unless, of course, the island has decided to go and do something like manifest our own personal wishful thinking, just as I, too, have come back ♥. We could have been ships passing in the night, and what a tragedy that may have beeen ♥."

"We landed back last Sunday," Octavia told him, with a very faint trace of something wry. "Literally. We were still in Los Angeles one second, and fell onto the deck of the Rouge the next."

"Unexpectedly, I can only assume?" Shunsui guessed with a lift of his brow. "Hopefully the fall wasn't too rough?"

Octavia shook her head, barely. "I think we've all had worse." A lot worse, in a few cases. "Duke has a fracture in his arm, but that was... From earlier."

Which was a whole big complicated thing they didn't necessarily need to get into right now.

"Did you just get back?" she asked instead. "You weren't at the store."

"Strolled in just this morning ♥," Shunsui confirmed with a duck of his head. "Disgustingly early, if you ask me," which meant it hadn't been very early at all, "but it would be a shame to miss too much of the picnic ♥."

There seemed to have been a small moment of consideration, the slightest tilt of his head before he added, "Shame to have missed you at the store, though. Get anything good ♥?"

"Just basic groceries," Octavia replied. "Nothing interesting."

She would have said that about anything.

"Turns out things don't all keep when you have to leave for over a month without cleaning out the fridges."

"If they did," Shunsui noted with amusement, "I might be fairly worried, really, or quite possibly might have to ask where exactly you'd gotten that fridge ♥."

There was definitely a reason why there was hardly ever any food in his own fridge.

Well, a couple, but they mostly centered around general laziness and somewhat forgetting at times that he even had one...

"But hopefully," he added, "you've gotten yourself well stocked up with the intention of staying a little while longer, else that seems terribly wasteful to only turn around, flit off, and have to clean it out all over again in another month ♥."e

"You never know with this place," Octavia replied with a little sigh, "but yeah, we're planning to stay, now."

A pause.

"If the multiverse lets us." Which, let's face it, it hadn't always done in the past.

And that was the reason why Shunsui certainly never bothered to keep track of Octavia's particular comings and goings. It all did seem rather up in the air, more often than not...

"A rather fickle thing at times, neh ♥?" he observed, and then lifted his cup. "All the more reason to make sure to enjoy your being here now while I can ♥."

And with a toast to that sentiment and the sip to follow, he, of course, had to ask, while refilling that cup, "And are we still abstaining from certain types of liquid vices, Octavia-chan?"

Oh, the wry look was back. "Yeah." The little interlude with expensive rum right after they'd returned had been a desperate whim. "For the forseeable future."

Even if the consequences for the rum hadn't been as dire as she'd feared.

Octavia shrugged, faintly, and said "Sorry", even though there wasn't really reason to.

Shunsui shrugged a little with a smile that agreed that there wasn't anything to apologize for, though it did make him wish he'd thought to add the water jug to his already well-laden belt. "All the more me to enjoy," he decided, "for the both of us ♥."

Such a hardship, truly.
