Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

It was Fall! It was stupidly humid today and it was about a billion degrees, but the picnic area was full of apples, pumpkins, and those decorative corn stalks that looked cute until it rained. There was food on tables--including more Cup Noodles than strictly necessary--and chairs scattered throughout the lawn in front of the castle.

Welcome, new and old, to Fandom High! It's only gonna get weirder.

[This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Yeah, definitely no yelling here. This was someone who practically wanted to give you an award for that bus, Nina.

But he knew both Nina's and her brother's stories well enough to imagine what it was she needed hiding from, especially having met the man who was far less pleased about the noodles on wheels as he was.

And one thing that Gladio was definitely good at was being a good shield. So, laughing a little, he considered the incoming Argentum and positioned himself easily, putting out an arm for extra defense, so she could proper seek that santuary behind him.

Not that he imagined she'd really need it, although that would be fairly interesting, to have the Dean of Students effectively try to murder an actual student during the welcome picnic.

"Nina," he greeted, looking down and over his shoulder at her with a grin. "Good to see you."

Aw, no, Bus Dean was a softy and wouldn't actually hurt her! She knew that.

But all the same, sanctuary was sought with her ducking behind him and that arm, and still giggling, as she beamed up at him.

"You too!!!!!!!!!!! Have fun getting here???????????"

That grin sharpened significantly. "Don't think I could have asked for a better ride," he said. "Gotta hand it to this place: they know how to pick up their newbs in style."

"And it keeps Bus Dean on his toes!!!!!!!!!!!!"

"I tried to tell him that the look was really working for him," Gladio informed her with a shake of his head and a put-upon sigh, "but I don't think he believed me. I guess not everyone's prepared to fully embrace the sheer awesome and ultimate flavor experience that is Cup NoodleTM excellence."

The seriousness melted away into another grin. "Ya did good, kid."

She beamed.

"The hat will be back in my dorms once the picnic is over," she said, "unharmed, so it can go back to Insomnia whenever one of us goes back!!!!!!!!!!!"

'Us' obviously being her and the guys.

She bounced on her toes a little. "We're really going to have to work at it to top it next semester!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

That was good news, about the hat, because Gladio definitely didn't want to have to be the one to talk Noctis down if he discovered that the thing had gone missing entirely, especially since it would be interesting to see Noct try to balance pretending he didn't care with the very clear and obvious fact that he did.

Gladio settled comfortably, folding his arms over his chest as he grinned at her. "I don't know if that can be topped," he admitted, "but I'm sure you two will still manage to think of something."

Nina didn't want to upset Noct. Not over a hat, anyway.

"We have to," she said earnestly. "It's the last semester before I graduate!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Which was kind of horrifying, really, because she didn't know what she'd do without the structure of school to frame her days around even if she ignored her classes a lot.

"So it needs to be big!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

"Now all I'm picturing is that guy sitting behind the wheel of an extremely oversized bus," Gladio admitted, shaking his head.

And, yes, for the record, in this image, Anakin was still wearing the hat. Because that was just probably how Gladio would forever see that man, regardless.

"Too obvious, anyway," Gladio nodded in agreement. "You're way too creative to just go for the low-hanging," albeit comedically oversided, "fruit, especially with something like this. This whole shuttle thing is kind of your guys' magnum opus, right?"
