Advanced Criminal Justice, Class 26, Period 1, 04.13.06

[OOC: And once again, I interact little. But there's a good reason for it this time! I'm here, Obi-Wan's here, we're all here, let's party. Class Info Post.]

The Tick was sitting behind his desk with a smile on his face. Even Lockheed seemed slightly interested in what was going on today. "Hello, students! Sorry I wasn't here on Tuesday. I was fighting that most fearsome of all foes, the Uncommon Cold! Thank you, Rory, for covering for me at the last minute."

"Today, we have a special guest lecturer who is here to tell us about another view of Justice that we've had some exposure to. Please welcome Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi!"

Obi-Wan moved forward and leaned against the corner of Professor Tick's desk. "Good morning, everyone. Professor Tick has asked me to speak today about codes of justice in the galaxy where Anakin and I come from. But to do that I ought to explain first what the Jedi are – and then, I think, you'll understand much more than if I recited every code of the Galactic Constitution since the Republic's founding."

Obi-Wan in teaching mode had a slightly schoolmasterish air, but it's offset by the warm smile he has for Anakin's friends.

"For more than a thousand generations, the Jedi have been the guardians of peace and justice in the Galactic Republic. Before the dark times. Before the Empire."

"Now obviously when we're talking about an entire galaxy, each system and its planets handle local criminal affairs and government according to their own culture. The Jedi are not security forces; we operate as negotiators in interplanetary diplomacy and advisors the Galactic Senate. We're mediators primarily – but warriors when necessary, in everything from trade disputes to full-out multi-system warfare." His voice drops a little. "Something that's becoming rather too frequent, lately."

He rubs his forehead distractedly for a moment, then gets back on topic. "The power of the Jedi flows from the Force, what we call the energy of the universe created by all living things. We work with it, within it, let it guide our actions and our thoughts. But above all, the Jedi use the Force to defend and protect, never to attack; with respect for all life-forms; and in service of the galaxy, never for our own benefit."

"So – let me start taking your questions, and I'll go on from there."

He's frowning a whole lot when the Jedi brings up the Force and then stands up to ask a question. "You worship this Force?"

Parker's a good friend. She'll act as distraction to a Jedi Master any time.

"Master Obi-Wan? I'm Parker, and welcome to Earth. First, I'm really glad you're feeling well enough to be here." Brilliant smile. "Second, do you mind explaining how the lack of personal possessions helps a Jedi channel the Force? I'm afraid I don't understand." She pouted a litle. "Anakin mentioned a robot he built that he had to leave behind...."

"Last semester Anakin was a member of the fencing club. What kind of sword training do the Jedi usually have?"

"What would be your favorite strategy when dealing with arguing factions?" Then, after absolutely not winking at Anakin, she asked, "and what would you feel have been your most challenging negotiations?"

Ah, the power of war stories.

Bridge raises his hand. And then, without actually waiting to be called on.

"Is it possible to *see* the Force?" he asks, curiously.

Logan arrived late and with bits of creamed corn still in his hair.

He raised his hand. "Is it true that Jedi are celibate?"

Aeryn hasn't heard a lot about any of this, actually. "Is there some sort of ranking, a chain of command that you have to follow?" she asks. She can assume, but she's curious what it actually is and how far it goes. "Who makes the decisions of when you have to intervene?"

"Why are you so hot?" she asks. Because damn.

He's sitting in the back and he isn't wearing a superhero costume today or billowing robes for the matter. Woe.

Angel doodled. He looked out for Rory and Anakin out of the corner of his eye, just to make sure they were okay.

Well, mostly Rory.

Anakin? Didn't look nervous. Or angry. Or sullen. Or anything.

He'd been working on keeping his emotions under control.

Of course, no one had asked any questions yet...

Rory was there, with enough pastries from J, GOB to feed the whole class.

Because she is thorough like that.

And she didn't look nervous, really. At all. Nope.

Isabel came in and took a seat in the back of the room. Even if Anakin had never heard of Antar, she wondered if there was a chance Obi-wan had.

Metaphor

Justice is a goatherd's cape, helping protect society from the bitter winds of Injustice

EC

Weetiny bunnies, in addition to being deceptively cute, respond remarkably well to military instruction. This could be useful in a fight for justice.

YES, SERIOUSLY.

Thank you so, so much for doing this. I'm having way too much fun having Rory twitching all over the place, and I really just *adore* your Obi-Wan. You have the voice down absolutely perfectly, and I wish we could have you around more. :)
