Advanced Criminal Justice, Class 26, Period 1, 04.13.06

The Tick was sitting behind his desk with a smile on his face. Even Lockheed seemed slightly interested in what was going on today. "Hello, students! Sorry I wasn't here on Tuesday. I was fighting that most fearsome of all foes, the Uncommon Cold! Thank you, Rory, for covering for me at the last minute."

"Today, we have a special guest lecturer who is here to tell us about another view of Justice that we've had some exposure to. Please welcome Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi!"

Logan arrived late and with bits of creamed corn still in his hair.

He raised his hand. "Is it true that Jedi are celibate?"

Anakin choked.

Rory bit her lip and tried very, very hard to keep her face from showing any emotion.

Obi-Wan looked nonplussed by the corn - and the question - though he raises an internal eyebrow. He heard Anakin choking a little, and felt a small tremor in Rory's emotions (http://community.livejournal.com/fandomhigh/807242.html?thread=37787722#t37787722), but assumed they were simply embarassed about discussing sex in class. Although really, he knew his own talk with Anakin had been somewhat awkward, but it couldn't have been that bad.

"Yes, it's true Jedi don't form romantic attachments, just as we forswear material attachments. The Jedi adhere to a code:
There is no emotion; there is peace.
There is no ignorance; there is knowledge.
There is no passion; there is serenity.
There is no death; there is only the Force.

Parker restrained herself-- just barely-- from blowing a raspberry.

"Interesting," Logan said. "Is it true that Jedi who violate this code are castrated?"

Anakin glared like a glaring thing that glares, then looked back at Obi-Wan.

No. Say no. Please, please tell him no.

Logan winked at Anakin and blew him a kiss.

Anakin replied with a hand gesture that Obi-Wan would recognize.

It wasn't terribly polite.

Obi-Wan blinks in astonishment. "Force, no! If a Jedi decides, for whatever reason, that he can no longer live as a Jedi, he simply leaves the order. It's extraordinarily rare, but it is accepted, as long as he leaves in peace."

"Oh," Logan said, a little disappointed. "No punishment, then?"

Obi-Wan noticed Logan's winking and kiss-blowing (http://community.livejournal.com/fandomhigh/807242.html?thread=37823562#t37823562) and realized the boy was just needling Anakin. "Sorry to disappoint you, " he said dryly, "but barbaric ritualism went out of style for us some several thousand years ago."

"Brainwashing, though - that's still standard practice? You know, when a non-Jedi gets in your way?" Logan asked.

Anakin went very quiet, but the mental blocks he had put up were still there.

He was the perfect picture of Jedi serenity.

Of course, this being Anakin, looking serene was...strange...for him.

For a second Obi-Wan didn't get it. When he realized what Logan was referring to, all he could think was Anakin, what have you been doing?

"It's true Jedi do possess a uniquely persuasive ability, should they choose to use it," Obi-Wan answered slowly. "But it's a tool used only at great need, and not for personal gain. ~~Or just to make pesky deathstick sellers fuck off and rethink their lives.~~"

"So, using it to hide that you're screwing around with someone's girlfriend - that's probably not considered great need," Logan said. "What with the lack of castration and all."

"Considering a Jedi shouldn't be having any girlfriend, let alone someone else's; no, it's not."

Obi-Wan hoped that the boy's line of questioning was just more Anakin-baiting...but he was starting to have a very bad feeling about this.

Anakin looked like he was thinking about castrating Logan.

His mind, if Obi-Wan was checking, was still carefully controlled.

"Thank you, sir. I appreciate you taking the time to speak to us," Logan said politely.
