Advanced Criminal Justice, Class 26, Period 1, 04.13.06

[OOC: And once again, I interact little. But there's a good reason for it this time! I'm here, Obi-Wan's here, we're all here, let's party. Class Info Post.]

The Tick was sitting behind his desk with a smile on his face. Even Lockheed seemed slightly interested in what was going on today. "Hello, students! Sorry I wasn't here on Tuesday. I was fighting that most fearsome of all foes, the Uncommon Cold! Thank you, Rory, for covering for me at the last minute."

"Today, we have a special guest lecturer who is here to tell us about another view of Justice that we've had some exposure to. Please welcome Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi!"

Aeryn hasn't heard a lot about any of this, actually. "Is there some sort of ranking, a chain of command that you have to follow?" she asks. She can assume, but she's curious what it actually is and how far it goes. "Who makes the decisions of when you have to intervene?"

"Not in the militaristic sense that you mean, but there are three basic rankings in the order. Padawans," and here he nodded at Anakin, "are Jedi-in-training, assigned to a Knight who teaches them, guides them in their path. A Knight is the most common ranking - one who has passed the four Trials to become a Jedi. A Knight who has successfully trained a Padawan, or who has grown greatly in wisdom and discipline and faces the Trials again, becomes a Master. Finally there are twelve Masters who sit on the Jedi Council, the governing body of our order. They advise the Senate, decide where Jedi are needed throughout the galaxy, and preside over promotions within the order. But indivdiual Jedi do operate with a certain amount of autonomy - it's why we train for so long and face the Trials that we do, so that we can trust our instincts, trust in the Force, and apply our judgement accordingly."

"So you have smaller units, or partnerships? And then eventually you go out on your own, or do you take a new person to train?" You can take the girl out of the military...

"Jedi primarily work in pairs, yes, though some Masters do operate alone. It can depend on the Jedi and the nature of the assignment. Some take on another student after their first Padawan is Knighted. Others may decide one was enough." He gives a small, wry grin.

Aeryn gives a little grin back. Because she can imagine.

Anakin had the distinct feeling people were making fun of him.
