Advanced Criminal Justice, Class 26, Period 1, 04.13.06

[OOC: And once again, I interact little. But there's a good reason for it this time! I'm here, Obi-Wan's here, we're all here, let's party. Class Info Post.]

The Tick was sitting behind his desk with a smile on his face. Even Lockheed seemed slightly interested in what was going on today. "Hello, students! Sorry I wasn't here on Tuesday. I was fighting that most fearsome of all foes, the Uncommon Cold! Thank you, Rory, for covering for me at the last minute."

"Today, we have a special guest lecturer who is here to tell us about another view of Justice that we've had some exposure to. Please welcome Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi!"

"Not given -- certain beings in the galaxy are born with natural ability to sense the Force. The Jedi simply seek them out to train them, to teach them to use their abilities for the good of all."

"You lead them astray," he accuses. "You guide them away from the path of enlightment. You shelter them and keep the knowledge of the universe hidden for your own good. Not theirs or anyone else's."

Anakin stared at Cam. The hell?

Obi-Wan's expression grows stern. "I've always found," he said tightly, "that enlightment depends greatly on your point of view. The Sith believe they have a superior path, one based on anger and hatred, and domination of weaker beings. They seek knowledge of power and immortality in isolation, passing on what they learn only to their single apprentice - and that begrudgingly."

"The Jedi don't interfere in local religion. There are those in the past - Sith, and other Dark Jedi - who have taken advantage of their powers and abused local custom, impersonating gods and prophets. But the Jedi above all others know that great and seemingly supernatural abilities are proof of neither wisdom nor divine grace."

He breaks off there, feeling the anger behind the young man's accusations. He extends his senses further. All living beings have a presence in the Force beyond their physical flesh - and there's something strange about the way this one feels to Obi-Wan.

Yeah, he really wasn't too happy with that reply. "There is only one correct path towards enlightment and the Ori lead us towards it in their Book of Origin," he's forgetting about the audience as he continues.

"Is not great knowledge and abilities enough to be revered? Do not those who help everyone and ensure that no soul is left to the forces of evil deserve to be recognised for their doings?"

Sam shot Janet a look and mouthed Ori?

Ah, so it is a religious prohibition, after all. It's frustrating, but nothing Obi-Wan hasn't encountered before. His voice takes on the polite, yet distant tone he reserves for difficult negotiating partners.

"In my experience, things are rarely so simple as to have one answer. And an answer that fits one question does not always answer another. As for the forces of evil? Evil is found in fear, which leads to anger and hatred. These, the Jedi oppose. Some may seek recognition for their deeds; others do not. However, as I said, the Jedi respect local custom. If your religion serves you well, it is sufficient."

"Those who seek the path of enlightenment must not be led astray," he replies vehemently. "We must not let unbelievers corrupt those who follow the right path."

He really is a fanatic. I wish Anakin had mentioned it. However, he caught Sam's puzzlement (http://community.livejournal.com/fandomhigh/807242.html?thread=37820234#t37820234) and his Padawan's surprise (http://community.livejournal.com/fandomhigh/807242.html?thread=37805386#t37805386). Combined with some of the feelings of concern and worry he could sense in the room, Obi-Wan gathered that this was somewhat out of the ordinary for the young man, and frowned, wondering what that strange, not-fitting feeling he sensed had to do with it.

"These things are not the Jedi's concern," was all he said. "As long as beings live peacably with their neighbors, their relationship with their gods is their own."

He could argue some more, but clearly that galaxy needed a plague or two and he's starting to become aware again of the other students.

So instead, he inclines his head. "I understand," he says simply. Not that he agrees.
