Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

With all the rain that had blown through earlier in the week, the school administration had been worried that welcome picnic day would be wet and gloomy. Thankfully, it was sunny, warm, and beautiful outside, and everything had been set up just in time for the shuttle of new folks to arrive. There was a buffet table of food and drinks waiting, along with the list of Big and Little Siblings, the list of roommates, and more name tags than they'd probably need for three picnics.

Also, there wasn't a single flower out on the lawn after last weekend. Just saying.

With everything in place, it looked like it was time for the first summer term to begin!


[OCD up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Current students who had been assigned new rooms and/or roommates had been handwavily informed of the change, but the list had been posted for everyone to see at one of the tables:

Barry glanced at the list and saw his name listed there with Edwards's in between taking readings on his tablet.

"Yo! Edward!" He shouted out. "Where the fuck are you?"

Bellowing this loud was no good for Edward's poor head, but it was the only way to carry the sound from where he was sitting to... wherever whoever had bellowed first was situated.

Barry wandered over putting his tablet away temporarily. "Looks like we're sharing a room. I'm Barry. And before we get into the idle chit chat, I just need to warn you that if you see anything in our room that's mine? Don't touch it. It's for your own safety."

Elsa of Arendelle? Sounded like someone way too important to want to have Kaylin around. And sharing a room? Well, at least it was a room and she didn't have to fend for herself on the streets.

She looked around at the nametag for this Elsa, glad she'd learned how to read enough to get by.

Elsa apparently had a new roommate this semester, which she didn't really mind all too much. Her last one had been tolerably quiet, after all, and a boy, to boot. She figured she would at least be less awkward about the idea of sharing a room if her new roommate was a girl. And, to her relief, the name of this one seemed to stand a pretty decent chance.

As did the face, once she found the corresponding nametag.

"Excuse me? Would you be Kaylin?"

[OOC: Perfectly fine! Today is Free Comic Book Day, and then later in the evening I'll be going off to see Spider-Man, pinging from work somewhere in between the two. SP is wonderful!]

Kaylin turned quickly to see the other girl. "I am, yes. And you're Elsa?"

She seemed pleasant enough, reminded her of a younger Caitlyn a bit.

"Are you new also?"

Having learned a bit from the girl who was supposed to orient her here, Jalian checked and saw that her name did indeed appear on the room listing. "Felicity," she read the name of her assigned roommate, and looked around for her.

Huh, so Andros had a roommate, and he looked to be from somewhere they used surnames, which wasn't uncommon. What was concerning was, "What kind of a name is Ichabod?" he muttered to himself. He'd probably butchered the pronunciation, too.

It was pronounced well enough for Ichabod to pick it up, anyway. He turned around, spotted the name 'Andros' on the other boy's name tag and replied: "One appearing in the Good Book, I think you will find. Unlike Andros, I believe."

Oh, great, he'd already managed to insult his roommate. Way to go, Andros. "I'm afraid I don't know which book you're referring to," Andros admitted. "But I'm sure it's very good."

Anders had lived with roommates since he was sent to the Circle, and he wasn't surprised school was the same. As long as Rapunzel wasn't a thief or a hoarder, he anticipated this would be absolutely fine.

"Rapunzel?" he read aloud, hoping he pronounced it right. (He did, or close enough.) "I'm your new roommate."

"Hi again!" Rapunzel was relieved when she heard her name, and from the boy who'd been sick before! (Well, not relieved that he'd been sick so much that she was relieved she recognized her roommate -to-be.) "Hi. You're Anders, huh? I've never had a roommate before, really! This'll be fun!"

The realization that she'd be living with a boy would hit her any second now.

Ruefully, he added, "I didn't exactly bring anything with me, so I don't have much to move in."

"This makes no sense," Nathan whispered to himself, staring at the list of names that included his own. How had anyone known he'd be here when he himself hadn't expected it?

And who was this Soren Bearstar person? It wasn't a name he'd ever heard before, not from his grandmother or from Arran or his father. Nathan rubbed the side of his head, ignoring the constant buzzing that signaled technology nearby.

This Soren person was standing (nametag and all) right next to Nathan, also looking at the list with interest. "You're telling me," he said with a shake of his head. He knew Fandom was different, but it still felt... strange... to be apparently trusted with a roommate once more.

"I don't understand how anyone here knows my name," he muttered, glancing over at Soren when he spoke. "How could anyone know that? I've never been here before."

If their combined confusion illustrated anything, it was that they might be matched well as far as roommates went.

Four was after the list with a magic marker again, carefully writing "Four" next to Cecil's name.

Cecil squinted at the list, blinked at the magic marker, and shrugged. "Four?" he called loudly, looking around. Foucault honked in assistance and also looked around. The honk might not help, but the looking was impressive.

Now, to find a Toby. Eleanor wasn't sure if he'd be wearing a nametag or not; that seemed mostly for new students and their siblings, and she wasn't sure if he would be one of either. At least her own nametag was prominently affixed to her sundress.
