Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

With all the rain that had blown through earlier in the week, the school administration had been worried that welcome picnic day would be wet and gloomy. Thankfully, it was sunny, warm, and beautiful outside, and everything had been set up just in time for the shuttle of new folks to arrive. There was a buffet table of food and drinks waiting, along with the list of Big and Little Siblings, the list of roommates, and more name tags than they'd probably need for three picnics.

Also, there wasn't a single flower out on the lawn after last weekend. Just saying.

With everything in place, it looked like it was time for the first summer term to begin!


[OCD up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Bellowing this loud was no good for Edward's poor head, but it was the only way to carry the sound from where he was sitting to... wherever whoever had bellowed first was situated.

Barry wandered over putting his tablet away temporarily. "Looks like we're sharing a room. I'm Barry. And before we get into the idle chit chat, I just need to warn you that if you see anything in our room that's mine? Don't touch it. It's for your own safety."

You really didn't want to say that sort of thing in front of Edward. It had all the hallmarks of ending poorly.

Edward squinted up at him, holding up a hand to block out the sun. "Is it, now?" he said. "You know it's poor etiquette, comin' in threatening a man the first day you meet him."

Barry groaned and rolled his eyes. "Dude, I'm not trying to threaten you. I'm a scientist and bad shit can happen if you play with any of my equipment. It's a safety thing."

Why would they put a scientist with a bloody sheep farmer's son, was the question. Somehow Edward couldn't help but see this exchange as a slight against his character.

"Don't worry, man," he said, sounding none too fond, "You can keep your 'toys', I won't get my grubby hands near them, if you're so concerned."

Because someone in the school office thought it would be funny that's why. Damned office.

"oh, Jesus fucking Christ ! These aren't toys. These are experiments which can... Oh fuck it I'll just find somewhere else to do them."

Besides the whole dorm would be safer that way.

To be fair, the worst Edward would probably do was steal Barry's experiments and sell them-- though on the other hand that was the worst he could do and some supervillain would probably wind up with the stuff, if it didn't blow up on him to begin with.

... Oh, of course, now the man tried to be friendly. Edward was now armed with the full understanding that Barry was a condescending arse, and he wasn't about to let go of it. "I'd say I'm in a far better condition than you are, mate, but thanks for asking."
