Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

With all the rain that had blown through earlier in the week, the school administration had been worried that welcome picnic day would be wet and gloomy. Thankfully, it was sunny, warm, and beautiful outside, and everything had been set up just in time for the shuttle of new folks to arrive. There was a buffet table of food and drinks waiting, along with the list of Big and Little Siblings, the list of roommates, and more name tags than they'd probably need for three picnics.

Also, there wasn't a single flower out on the lawn after last weekend. Just saying.

With everything in place, it looked like it was time for the first summer term to begin!

[OCD up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Let the ~~hazing~~ brain breaking begin!

Current students who had been assigned new rooms and/or roommates had been ~~handwavily~~ informed of the change, but the list had been posted for everyone to see at one of the tables:

Happy Welcome Picnic Day!!!

Edward had sobered some in the hours since arriving at the terminal. Unfortunately, that meant his head now hurt every time he tilted it wrong, and so he had retreated to the shadows to avoid the sky's blistering assault on his senses.

He had simply followed the others here, as this seemed to be where everyone had been going. But he was without his letters, and so no amount of looking around had made it clear exactly where he was-- he'd have to ask, once the pain faded.

Any moment now.

Barry probably should be doing the social thing and be looking for his sib but he was instead looking at his tablet and taking readings of the island.

He had however put on a name tag just in case someone was looking for him.

Barry glanced at the list and saw his name listed there with Edwards's in between taking readings on his tablet.

"Yo! Edward!" He shouted out. "Where the fuck are you?"

"What?!"

Bellowing this loud was no good for Edward's poor head, but it was the only way to carry the sound from where he was sitting to... wherever whoever had bellowed first was situated.

"Are you talking to me?!"

Ender didn't drink alcohol, and he didn't have any reasons to start - so no, he hadn't broken out the booze. In fact, he supported a faint smile and a relaxed expression that belied the fact he was keeping very close track of everyone at the picnic.

Barry wandered over putting his tablet away temporarily. "Looks like we're sharing a room. I'm Barry. And before we get into the idle chit chat, I just need to warn you that if you see anything in our room that's mine? Don't touch it. It's for your own safety."

You really didn't want to say that sort of thing in front of Edward. It had all the hallmarks of ending poorly.

Edward squinted up at him, holding up a hand to block out the sun. "Is it, now?" he said. "You know it's poor etiquette, comin' in threatening a man the first day you meet him."

Cara looked oh so friendly and approachable as she leant against the nearest wall, really she did.

Kate was totally here! And not breaking out any booze. Even if that might have helped with how weirded out she felt, because she felt really weirded out. She was used to these picnics from a different perspective.

And now she was scanning the crowd for any familiar faces, and also for her teaching buddy.

Isabelle had a nametag on her shirt and an easy smile on her face, and she was ready to welcome another fake little sibling.

Perhaps Kaylin would be less likely to trigger an urge to punch than her last one had been.

A big sister? Kaylin had certainly never had one of those before. She want sure how she felt about it, but well, maybe it wouldn't be a bad thing.

It didn't take her long to realize she had to wear one of the funny tag things and to go searching for someone wearing the right matching one.

"Isabelle?"

Elsa of Arendelle? Sounded like someone way too important to want to have Kaylin around. And sharing a room? Well, at least it was a room and she didn't have to fend for herself on the streets.

She looked around at the nametag for this Elsa, glad she'd learned how to read enough to get by.

"That's correct!" Isabelle confirmed, tapping her fingertips against the nametag in question as if for further proof. "And you must be Kaylin! Hello, welcome to Fandom."

[ooc: SP is always cool with me! Have fun, break a leg, all of that!]

Evan supposed there was, at least, a way of making use of a telepathic dinosaur while at the same time getting her and Ozzy out for exercise. See, if he leashed one to the other, and then told Old Lace to keep an eye open for new boys around the park, then he could get so much more done, today!

How fortunate was it that Old Lace noticed the one sitting somewhat away from the crowd, first? New people were easiest to sniff out when they weren't surrounded by the old ones, after all.

It was probably a little more fortunate that, after pointing him out to Evan, O.L. and Ozzy stayed back a reasonable distance so as to not freak out anybody not used to dinosaurs. Or, perhaps, stubby dogs.

"Hey," Evan said, doing his best to sound cheerful as he approached the other boy. "I don't suppose you've seen someone named Edward around here?"

Evan's cheer packed a wallop on Edward's head, it did, but he was a trooper and lifted it anyway. "Haven't seen him," he said, "But you have, now."

He reached up and realized he hadn't actually brought his beloved tricorne with him on this escapade. "How d'you know my name?"

Elsa apparently had a new roommate this semester, which she didn't really mind all too much. Her last one had been tolerably quiet, after all, and a boy, to boot. She figured she would at least be less awkward about the idea of sharing a room if her new roommate was a girl. And, to her relief, the name of this one seemed to stand a pretty decent chance.

As did the face, once she found the corresponding nametag.

"Excuse me? Would you be Kaylin?"

[OOC: Perfectly fine! Today is Free Comic Book Day, and then later in the evening I'll be going off to see Spider-Man, pinging from work somewhere in between the two. SP is wonderful!]

"Hello," Kaylin said, feeling suddenly more than a little homesick. Something about Isabelle reminded her of Teela, not that she could quite put her finger on it.

"So, how bad is this place?" she asked. "I'd never even heard of it till yesterday when they told me I had to come."

"Lucky guess," Evan replied. And then, a moment later, he relented and pointed toward the picnic. "It was on the sibling list over there, and there's a nametag with your name on it sitting at the nametag table, and you're not wearing one."

A beat.

"But mostly it was a lucky guess, and you're the first new kid my dinosaur friend noticed. I'm Evan, hi."

Jono wasn't going to break out the booze for pretty obvious reasons.

But he was here, sadly without having painted a Union Jack on the shuttle, and looking about curiously to see if there were any new faces that hadn't taken the bus.

All of the teachers this term seemed to be Fandomites or past Fandomites already. Interesting.

Kaylin turned quickly to see the other girl. "I am, yes. And you're Elsa?"

She seemed pleasant enough, reminded her of a younger Caitlyn a bit.

"Are you new also?"

[Ooc: Spider-Man is what the niece and I are off to see. Excited to have Elsa as a roommate!]
